Good morning to y'all.

I am having an issue with watching a recording that is still taking place.
In the past this was not a problem. For instance, I would start a recording. It would start and continue till the end. If I skipped commercials tv eventually would show 'live tv' on the screen and skipping commercials wouldn't be possible.

I set up Hopper3 to record soccer tournament on Fox. One game was still recording. Few days ago. About 55 minutes into the game, I selected to watch from the beginning. (I always add 60 extra minutes to soccer games.) The screen turned black and stayed black as if I turned the TV off! This was not a problem in the past. A tv connected to Joey 2. Pressing different buttons on remote (to go to live tv and start all over) did nothing. Unresponsive.
I unplugged Joey 2. Waited and plugged it back. That didn't help. I assumed the issue was with Hopper3 instead. I turned the TV connected to Hopper3. Must remind you the game was still being recorded. Exactly same result. Blank screen!
I could hear my wife watching a different recording upstairs on TV connected to kitchen Joey2! Entering channel numbers on remote would not take me to live tv. Very strange. Unplugging and replugging Hopper3 did not help.

I waited until the recording was done. I selected the same recording with Joey 2 (on my daily tv, the first one) and it was fine.
This happened at least twice.
What does this mean? Software glitch? Hopper3 dying? I also noticed changing channels on live tv or selecting a recording is taking extra few seconds. Hopper3 seems a bit slower.

Anybody had a similar experience? I believe it is too early to ask for equipment replacement.

Thanks.

Since latest software update I've had similar issues but if you go back to dvr and start the recirding a second time, for me, it always starts playing the second time.

f you go back to dvr
That was the first thing I tried. The remote was unresponsive. Pressing DVR or back (live tv?) button does nothing. I ended up looking at black screen for a long time. The only thing that works is turning Joey2 off with remote.
Here's the strange thing: While Hopper3 is still recording 6:30 pm national news (20-25 minutes into 32 minute recording) I can select that recording from DVR, start from the beginning and be able to skip commercials.
Yet, an almost 3 hour soccer recording does not let me start from watching while it is still recording. When it is done I can. I should add DVR is about 40 % full.

It sounds like a software update, not a Hopper3 (that I lease) issue.

like I said software bug and old one that was original fixed, on my end almost always only effect joey 4k but some time was issue on h3 side, had both h3 and joey4k replace in this cause h3 replace one and joey 4k replaced twice ( trying to fix diffrent problem which also software issue that fixed years down 2+ years down road after noticing it ). still happened I was told by tech if still happen gotta just wait and see if get fixed, 6+ months later it was fixed.

You can try have h3 replaced, and see what happen there is always chance it hardware related. Everway Dish is not gonna really admit to any actual problems with there updates official.

Hear ya. I watched today's games live while DVR was recording both. I should have gone to DVR and see what would happen when Hopper was still recording.
Both recordings played fine after they were complete. Tested few minutes before I deleted them.

Tomorrow, I am determined to check DVR when the games are being recorded.
Curious if this issue happens all the time or occasionally!

Yesterday, I selected a recording (a soccer game) from DVR while it was still recording.
Hopper3 apparently felt sorry for me and started it from the beginning!
I was glad to see that. I guess this issue randomly happens.
I will accept this and wait till the recording is complete in the future.

it was always random on my end and almost exclusively on joeys playing back for dvr or live tv buffer, as I never view the tv using h3 , mom does and my was on my case for years while this was happen and she said it never did on h3 just joey4k. And what describing is sound exactly like issue i had. Mind you i had 2 h3 system so it probably make thing more issue.

in the end probably 1 in 10 tech visit ( i had other issue like frequent skip in play back of live tv on joey and joeys this issue went long black out issue) that was only it had actual did this when they where here, the skip in live tv only joeys was seen bunch time by bunch tech which turned out software too cause entire setup had hardware replace multiple time tracking that issue down.

guy told me replace h3 and joey4k so I let him replace my h3 and joey4k in my setup cause i didnt want replace all boxes again, and he told me he would make notes saying he believe it software and will forward it to his boss, and asked me to text him if it still happened. I did and he told me to call dish up and notify them too the problem was software, so I did about 6+ months later the problem stopped ( black out) dont know when live tv skip on joeys stopped.

I really really hope the issue dont start again on my end again.

Wipe out your cache/cookies for the site, could be a corrupt/local storage issue and that might help clear things up.

Yup bad cookie on your browser.

Also, make sure you don't have anything running either as a browser extension or a browser configuration option that deletes cookies (typically "delete cookies on exit").

The fact that you're having this problem suggests that you do.

Make sure the "keep me logged in" checkbox is ticked.

These cookies are issued on a per-device basis. If you're getting logged out on multiple devices, there's something else in play.

I kind of have the same issue but only on my iPhone or iPad. The "keep me logged in" checkbox is checked but after I login in works fine for that day but the next day I am always logged out but only on my iPad or iPhone. I have deleted cookies and ALL website data multiple times but it still happens over night every night unless I use a different browser. It only happens using Safari on the iPhone and iPad but not on my iMac. I have given up on it and just log back in everyday. I have checked settings but nothing has helped. And it didn't just start recently. It has been happening for quite a while. And it only happens here, DBSTalk and Facebook. All other websites keep me logged in even in Safari on iPad and iPhone.

That's because the one good thing the administration is doing is finally going after the fake and non-domiciled CDL drivers, opening the door to hire more valid drivers and hopefully will push the rates back up.

Well, i posted on another forum of a problem i was having. The 12000 transponder on 101ku has their AC3 signal whacked out. Been like that for awhile. My high end Audio receiver has much more pronounced glitches because it resets the audio when the glitch comes through. It's so annoying that i cannot listen to it. I figured out that if i turn on AC3 down-mix for the channels on the transponder, the audio glitches are resolved within the satellite receiver and sends a clean AC3 signal to the audio receiver. Now, there are still glitches, but its not very noticeable and am able to listen without being annoyed.

The problem is, its a pain to remember, oh for this channel i need AC3 pass-thru off, and this on, and run through the remote commands to enable/disable. I want 99.9% of the channels to be AC3 down-mix OFF. Only for the channels on this transponder do i want it On. Remedy. I wrote a E2 plugin that is very user friendly that i set the default mode, and then add the channels that i want opposite the default value, and the satellite receiver automatically turns AC3 down-mix on/off. Of course, its smart enough to only change the setting if it needs to.

Found two resolutions to the AC3 glitching :

Setup the channel as a RELAY channel, then the audio is perfect.

In another words, you set up an IPTV channel, that uses the following url :

Code:
http://[ip of e2]:[port (mine is 8001) / Channel Service Reference.

example :

Code:
http://IP:8001/1:0:1:2:1:0:816AEE0:0:0:0:

The other Option is just start a record. Then go into your movie list, and start watching the recording. You don't have to wait more then a couple seconds to start watching the recording, and since its recording, it will keep playing the stream. When your done watching the channel, stop the recording.

The recording trick does work to clean up the audio so it sounds good.

I have many folders of IPTV channels, but these were all set up using the iptv-org playlists plugin. On an Edision Mio+, I forget (or never knew) how to set up just one IPTV channel.

I use dreambox Edit 7.2.10 - That's what i use to modify my boutiques/favorites, and allows you to manually create a IPTV channel on the fly as a channel or edit the url/name of the IPTV channel.

The reason this works, apparently its a glitch in the DVB hardware. It is too strict, and the Gstreamer (which is whats used if your watching a stream or a file) is much more forgiving. I'm using a broadcom Si2166B and Si2166D tuner cards, so i suspect anyone using the same tuner card in their receivers would encounter the problem. Im curious if people using the FBC tuners have the same issue.

I don't think that is the specific bug to the problem. As if it was detected as LPCM, then there would be no audio, and it mentions specifically to ATSC broadcasts. You might inquire and see if there might be another answer or bug fix that would account for this specific situation. But, I'm glad to hear your issue has resolved...

Sometimes a thread gets so many posts in it that is can cause issues for the server so that why today we introduce The Song Name Game Part 3!

So let the game continue!

The last song was added by Bobby who posted...

One Meat Ball - Andrews Sisters

CONTINUE ON AND HAVE FUN! WELCOME HOME TO SATELLITEGUYS.US!

Here are the original rules for the game as posted by WebbyDude back in 2006. http://www.satelliteguys.us/threads/68645-Song-Name-Game

Just name a song title and the band who performed it. The next person does the same thing, but needs to list a song title or band name which includes a word from the previous entry. Pick songs from any genre.

Example:

Long Live Rock and Roll -- Rainbow

Rainbow in the Dark -- Dio

Another example:

Ride the Lightning -- Metallica

Lightning Strikes -- Ozzy Osbourne

Get it?

An additional note: we all know that song titles, sometimes, use profane words. Because this is a family friendly website it is advised that you clean up that title up a bit. This is accomplished by using something like sh!t instead of the real word. Thanks....

I'm new to Satelliteguys so let me give my perspective on Shaw TV reception from someone living in S. Indiana (about latitude 38.9). I have 4 800 series receivers (so all signals go through a multiswitch) and a 75 cm dish. I recently bought a signal meter, SATLINK WS-6933, but have been unable to measure a meaningful signal with it as the Quality Signal measures 0. Perhaps it's my meter settings or perhaps the incoming satellite signal is too weak. I believe it's the later. In any case, I typically measure the incoming signal by taking a Shaw box and a TV outside positioned next to the dish. If there are no adverse weather conditions, the typical signal level is 60 to 70 and EcbNo is 6.0 to 6.5. All strong enough to give me a decent picture. Below signal level 60, my picture starts fading in and out. On a bad weather day (rain, thunderstorms (not uncommon here), snow, etc.) the signal level typically drops below 60 thus no TV. My cable run for all TVs is about 100 yards from dish to TV and my signal loss seems to be minimal as I'll get similar readings at the dish and at the TV.

So, with that as background, I have 2 questions:
1. To boost the signal level, I'm considering replacing my dish for a larger dish, say 90 cm or 120 cm. I currently have an LNB, Shaw 75E-G1(T000409), so designed specifically to be used with a 75 cm dish. When I noticed my signal level decreasing, about 1 year ago, I replaced the LNB with a brand new one and saw no improvement in the signal level. Would this LNB still work with a larger dish? If so, are there any special adjustments that I would need to make in order to get it working? I know others have larger dishes, as one of the threads mentions someone in Denver with a 2.4m dish so there must be a way to make it work. Any advice on this would be appreciated.
2. To be sure my WS-6933 meter is set correctly, any advice on how to set all of the settings?

Sorry for the long post. Thanks in advance for all input.

Shaw familiar guys can answer better. You say your lnbf is designed for a 75cm dish.
So the feedhorn of the lnbf must be designed to prevent "spillover" to reduce interference from beyond the rim of the dish. If you were to picture the beam angle from the center of the lnbf throat to the dish rim in a V. Your focus is very close to the apex of the angle at the throat.
So. A larger dish won't hurt if it's an offset dish. There are online gain calculators to plug in different dish diameters.
If the larger dish maintains the same or very close beam angle at the lnb focal point, you should be golden.
Things to consider though is if the dish will allow easy mounting of your lnbf. A bracket may be needed.
With that comes you needing to move your lnbf in closer or further away from the dish to attain that focus needed to peak your signal.
Other than that. I always use my receiver and an app that lets me see signal on the receiver from inside of the house.
Can't comment on your signal finder box. But it seems that if the settings on it match what your receiver displays in setup. It should work. Although I do hear that some do have issues with them playing nice.

From the dungeon:
