The writing was quite awful on that one. We've got these astronomy geniuses not grabbing the whole fifth planet thing. I think it would have been a much better episode (series of episodes) had they been stuck there for a while.

Soap Opera Legend, can't believe she's 78.

She's been on Days of our Lives for 50 years. Mom used to record it to VHS all week and watch it a day or two later. It went digital only and forced her to learn how to use streaming apps.

I watched the three main soaps on ABC back in my 20s because I worked grave yards stocking and would watch them on my VCR in the afternoons when I got up after sleeping in the day. When I went to a dept. manager in the mornings, my buddy from the other department at Safeway and I would often go to eat at Mr. Ghatti's Pizza on our lunch break and they had a big box screen TV in the 80s we could watch the soap on which was All My Children at noon. "Tad the Cad" was our favorite soap guy. He was the shampoo guy at his birth mother's beauty shop and he seduced both mother Marion and her daughter Liza at the same time. Loved it when they both found out about the other.

Talk about "Love in the Afternoon" with Fireworks! :biggrin

Maybe Cable companies should rethink their strategy to attract new customers and to keep them. The old plan of announcing new fees for things you never had before after you subscribe and hiking the price every 6 months to a year is not working. Or they could continue to circle down the drain till they go under. At this point I don't really care as long as there is competition that can provide you with their services at lower prices. :smug

A skinny bundle with minimal fees would probably get them a few more years, but the corporate conglomerates that own the networks won't allow it. They're going to milk every penny out of 3 FXs, 6 MTVs, 7 ESPNs...all playing content available on Pluto.

No, but the vast majority of content on Cable Channels, which is reruns, is on there, Tubi, Roku Channel, etc.

Which always makes me wonder, why people pay that average $140 a month to Satellite/Cable Providers.

When they can get the new programming that is on Network/Cable Channels, along with so much more new content (both scripted and sports), at a much reduced price on the streaming services, compared to Live TV Providers, along with the better video/sound quality.

Then use services like Pluto if they crave reruns, which are both live and on-demand.

As I've posted before here, the only thing left is local news and a few random events. I'd really like a locals-only streaming package. I'd be willing to pay $20/month for that.

Wonder why DISH doesn't do that anymore. I remember they used to provide locals by themselves and then they added an $5.00 access fee to that. But back then it was like $9.00 for everything. Then they came out with the Welcome pack and did away with the locals only pack. I think that was in the early 2000s because I got my Aunt to take satellite TV for just locals, since she can't get them in her area due to a mountain. But that was over 25 years ago.

My favorite was when you could subscribe to the east and west network feeds for $4.99 each. iirc, with the superstations package it was $12.99 for all 3. Coming from cable that was really cool.

That was why we went with DISH in 1997. The east/west locals + Super Stations. We were watching Star Trek Voyager on a regular channel in our area back in the 90s and then they quit showing it and the Supers had the show on UPN. Also we got the WB with Supernatural and Buffy the Vampire Slayer. So I loved this pack with all those stations back then.

When we had the WebTV/Dishplayer 7100 pvr we could record 2 locals off the east coast and 2 off the west coast and we could watch all 4 networks the next day. Now I have no use for even the CW since they gutted all the Super hero shows and Star trek has been gone for years.

For years I have tried to get KRWG-TV from New Mexico State University (see my avatar). I could get a usable signal back in the analog days but when they went digital they moved their tower which is behind a tall mountain in my line of sight. I do get an occasional stable signal on some mornings if I turn my antenna that way but otherwise gave up on it long ago.
I was very excited when I read on their web site that they now provide an OTA signal for El Paso. However, when I dug into the technical details on rabbit ears I expected trouble when I read that they are using the same rf 23 as the main signal. Also, I am over 18 miles from the 3.15 KW transmitter.
Sure enough, when I scanned for new channels the signal breaks up continually and has only occasional audio. I am getting a signal strength of 92 but signal quality of only 10. This is with a moderate GE attic/outdoor antenna with clear line of sight to KFOX's tower (that KRWG is using in El Paso). I also tried the 4 bay antenna I put up for my neighbor at a higher 20 feet with the same results.
I suspect the problem to be that I get just enough of the main channel 23 to interfere with the local signal. Ten years ago I would have been tempted to try a higher and more directional antenna but I am a bit past that stage at this point. I also feel the chances of success are rather slim.
I wonder if KRWG wanted to use the same rf 23 or were forced into the situation as there are almost no empty slots on UHF in this area. I almost wish they hade used high VHF.
Do any members know of any area where these multi-transmitter set ups work well? They claim it will be feasible with ATSC 3.0 but I am not holding my breath for that.

I like New Mexico PBS here in Albuquerque, but I've seen KRWG on Directv when staying in hotels in southern Colorado and they have good programming. Ironic that they can't provide a translator here in the metro but if you have satellite you can get it anywhere in the state. They also have a livestream but you can't watch it unless your IP is located in their coverage area. A VPN would do it but I don't know of any VPN's with IP's in eastern NM.

Is there some sort of "lifeline" DTV Stream service that just offers locals?

The station just launched a translator in El Paso on Friday per news reports so maybe he tried before they launched it. He IS in the market so he can stream it. You are overthinking it.
KRWG should only be available in the El Paso market for Dish/Directv. They are not on satellite in Albuquerque per what I see nor nothing on Krwg website
