I thought when I paid my remaining balance after switching to Directv I would be done with them. Well, the guy who bought my 510 from me has had nothing but problems with getting them to activate it. First it was because of my remaining balance (which I paid in full, and even asked the CSR multiple times if this would clear my account and release the 510 for him to activate, which she said no problem, and even put his name in the notes) I knew I shouldn't have believed her. I told this guy, who has been very nice and understanding about this whole thing, that if they gave him crap to please let me know. Since this was an ebay auction, I treat this as a business transaction and want him to be satisfied. Well, DISH even told him that my balance was cleared, but low and behold, since I cancelled my contract they couldn't release the receiver until it was paid. So he gets me in a conference call with him and DISH and I tell them why I cancelled it. I told them the Viacom fiasco with them dropping channels I PAID for cancelled my contract with them. I even told this to the retention CSR last month. When I mentioned the Viacom thing the guy who bought the 510 from me did say that I raised a good point. Oh, I also mentioned the turner channels. I said, right in front of the CSR, that DISH is threatening to drop the turner channels. The CSR lied and said they didn't have any issues with turner. Well, just to tell you guys, the guy who bought the 510 is having second thoughs on DISH, and would drop them if it wasn't for his D-VHS. I have to say it again, this guy is very understanding about all this.

I'm on the phone now, irrate with another CSR trying to get the $240 removed from my account since they were in clear violation of their contract last month. I'm on hold, but the CSR told me the Viacom scrolls were sufficient enough of a warning according to their contract. My understanding is DISH is the one responsible, not Viacom, on letting us know when channels will be dropped.

This right here makes me SO damn happy that I switched to Directv. Their CSRs have been nothing but nice and courteous to me.

By the way, I hope yall get your money back on your 921s since DISH is going against their advertised features.

All that aside... as a company, Dish has some straightening up to do.

1) Their sales partners rarely fully explain to a new customer what they are getting into. (something they should have learned after a few lawsuits)
2) Threats and 'chatter' about channels dropping are becoming the norm every time a contract comes up.
3) Customer service is piss-poor.
4) New equipment is riddled with bugs and rarely 100%.
5) Satellite space severley limits channel growth (at least until E*X launches)
6) Installation gets shoddier due to slimming margins.
7) Existing customers 'feel' abandoned by preferential treatment of new customers.
Can't this pretty much describe DirecTV as well to some degree?

Well, as far as number one, I was explained to by the installer exactly what I was getting into.

2.) I haven't heard a word of Directv dropping channels. They do have a contract negotiation this year, but so far so good.
3.) Customer Service has been 500% better than DISH. I have enjoyed every time I talk with CS. They have answered all my questions and were knowledgeable. They went out of their way to make sure a tech came out to fix an issue I had recently.
4.) The Directivo hasn't had a single problem (knock on wood) yet!! It is highly stable and enjoyable to use.
5.) Directv is about to have another sat in service. I haven't heard of space issues on their current sats yet. all of my locals are on dish, not two.
6.) The techs that installed my equipment were VERY nice, paid attention to detail, and left me with a good feeling of workmanship to get the job done. They were very nice and friendly with my animals, which is something I worry about when having strangers in my house.
7.)Existing customers are getting the SAME deals as new customers! I, now as an existing customer, can get another directivo for $99, just like new can. In fact, only existing customers can get the $99 lease deal on an HD receiver.

All this chatter because you lost your channels for 2 days because the owner of the company wanted to try and save all of us some $$. You and several other people thanked him by canceling your service and going to another provider. The problem I see with this is that more providers are going to have to do the same type of service removal tactics. Mr Murdoc and Mr Ergan are 2 peas in a pod when it comes to negotiations. Remember Cox? They threatened to pull ESPN (a channel some people might really miss (sorry)). Anyway, I am personally Glad that someone actually stands up to rate increases. I hope more do. Maybe companies like VIACOM will find a way to reduce the cost of the programming they sell.

My point is this, if you think dish broke the contract, then fine. I think it was for a good cause. 2 things to keep in mind: 1, it is just TV. 2, he gave you at least $1 plus a $3.99 PPV coupon for our trouble.

btw, if you decide to pay a lawyer to look at your case please let us know what he says.

I tried to get out of a cell phone contract once because I thought the grass would be greener on the other side of the fence. Cost me a couple hundred because of subsidized equipment even though I swore they were in breech of contract because the phone didn't work inside their coverage area. So now I have service from another service that still doesn't work all the places it is supposed to. All in all I thought I was right, but all I did was waste money.

Just my 2 cents.
D
I searched the web and the best I could find was this at http://www.kevinboone.com/lawglos_breach_of_contract.html It says in part:

"In no case does a breach of contract, however fundamental, automatically discharge the contract, nor does it necessarily declare it void."

It also says:

"If a contracting party believes that the contract has been breached, then various options are open to him:
....
he may repudiate the contract, and treat it as discharged. He may then attempt to claim damages from the party in breach. However, the other party may believe that his own actions did not constitute a breach, in which case the repudiation may be a breach of contract itself. It follows that repudiation is only a good idea if the breach has been substantial. "

So just because Dish breached the contract does not mean it is automatically voided. Additionally, Neutron's attempt to get out of the contract could be considered a breach of the contract as well.

Again, I am not a lawyer, but I think it would be very tough for Neutron to argue in court that Dish's failure to provide notification of the loss of channels in the manner the contract states was a significant enough breach to void the contract. And even if we did win, I'm guessing the $240 he'd save wouldn't make up for the time and effort spend fighting it.

Had no idea there were that many redundancies built into those restraints.
It makes sense, however, I would want more types of restraints, so if one doesn't work, the other does ... the restraints coming over the shoulder I would have expected ... with a Seat belt as last resort.

Fwiw, I inquired with what they use on Coasters at Cedar Point, various Coasters, different restraints according to what the car and track requires ...

NONE of the Coasters at CP use THAT particular system :)
I'm glad to see ...

According to the article, when you see a seat belt on a ride like this, it is basically used as a way of making sure the rider isn't too large/fat to safely ride the ride.

Well, the over the shoulder support is better, but would require reconfiguring the cars.

Heres an article from the Akron Beacon ... seeing Six Flags has bought Cedar Point and Kings Island, they are included ...
I said earlier that Cedar Point doesn't use this type of seat restraint ... well, it does use it, But the difference is, the ones up here ALSO have the Over the shoulder restraint as well ... like I was suggesting that they should have used with the Goliath.

One of the new(er) one at Cedar point the Gate Keeper, uses the Clam shell .. I have rode it many times and have Mostly felt secure, that ride will stop you part way on the ride and you just hang, till the ride is ready to continue ... I typically ride the Front Car ... when its getting ready, you ARE hanging, in the car, looking down .... it would require 2 separate restraint systems to unlock at the same time to possibly get out of it.

UPDATE: Six Flags is adding seatbelts to all 9 rollercoasters

Didn't see a thread like this so I figured why not start one. This is about natural supplements. If you aren't into supplements, fine, but please let those of us who do want to discuss this discuss it.

The first one I wanted to mention has been a real life changer. I'm 62 and still do all of my own install work at my business....also do all the yard work at the house. A few years ago I started noticing that I was losing my range of movement, it was even getting hard to bend over and lace up my boots. Almost got stuck in an attic because I couldn't get turned around once the work was done. Didn't think much of it and figured with age comes stiffness that was only going to get worse as time went on.
It was then that I stumbled across a video which was discussing rotator cuff tears and why they were to prevalent these days. Turns out, the culprit is a simple deficiency in MANGANESE which is key in keeping your tendons flexible. Most anti-biotics strip your body of any manganese it might have had which is why certain anti-biotics, especially those in the Cipro family. I actually knew a man who had two tendons tear while on that stuff.
Went to Amazon and ordered some manganese. Now it took a while, it wasn't instant, but gradually I have regained all of my flexibility. I can bend over and touch my toes while standing with no pain and putting on my boots is no longer a chore.
Pretty cheap too. The bottle I ordered was a 200 ct for under $13. They said to take double the normal dose for the first month because most people are severely lacking, then go to one a day.

Not sure if this would qualify as a supplement but here goes: When I meet someone who is in their 90s and doing very well healthwise I always ask what they attribute their longevity to. Out of all the people I questioned, there was only ONE thing that they ALL did. They all drank some apple cider vinegar daily....usually before bed. You can water it down all you want. Who knows why, but I do it. You want to buy the organic type with the mother.

Well, the bag can't weigh that much, right? But by law food product packaging must display the actual net weight of the product, i.e., the contents of the container, so by any logic, if not law, a store's stated per-ounce cost should reflect that figure. But since there's not any law regulating shelf statements, a store can say whatever it wants without violating any rules. So I guess the answer is more consumer legislation. Or simply caveat emptor.

Well, according to the price per ounce on that first bag of coffee he mentions, that would mean the bag weighed over 6 ounces. That bag does NOT weigh 6 ounces. According to Google, an empty bag weighs half an ounce.

I would think that the Vendor/Maker of the product would have a say in it, showing the Correct weight ...
You would think it would be in the contract.

I do look at the ounces of items, but unless its way off, I don't check the math, may have to start now.

Remember when you use to get a 13.5 oz bag of Chips .... Thats a PARTY Size now.

Products sold by the ounce, pound, etc, should always be priced for the product only. Only the shipping weight should include the packaging.

Unless the specific product or its packaging is known at the time of weighing, estimating the tare weight for a PoS system is a tall order.

I'm pretty sure that produce bags can't get any thinner. ;)

You certainly don't want to put unbagged produce on a belt, scale, or in a clerk's hands (gloved or not).

I would think that all the packaging would already be accounted for ... they weigh the container, subtract that from the scale, then add the product , so its weighing the Product only

The larger discrepancies are likely from a data or sync issue. Digital tags don't cause the error, but they can spread one bad entry across a whole store or region instantly. The small cent differences are probably just rounding in the weight, the price data, or both.

I believe that per federal law the "net weight" of the given commodity, without regard to its packaging or the particular weight of that, must be clearly stated by the producer on the packaging. As in "Net wt. 2 lbs., 7 oz." So now the stores themselves commonly state a $ "per oz." or "per count" figure at the shelf whereas they never used to, supposedly to help people to comparison shop and/or to demonstrate that they are offering good prices. I would make the first assumption that they are simply taking the product label net weight and translating from that, as that would seem both the most logical as well as the easiest. If they're otherwise plopping the product onto a scale to arrive at a stated unit cost, then obviously that adds time & effort.

The ultimate question would be, if they are doing that, what really would it gain them? They'd get to show a very slightly lower unit price, but then presumably the competition between brands would still be even. I don't see how it can really much matter, but on principle there should be rules in this regard.

I buy my coffee beans from a local small batch roaster. The scale they use has a large stainless steel bowl on top. They scoop the beans from large mylar bags containing the roast of your choice. After weighing the coffee the beans are poured into a bag or ground, your choice. I have a grinder and prefer grinding right before I brew.

Ice cream must meet the follow standards:

Contain at least 10% milkfat (from real dairy/cream).
Weigh at least 4.5 pounds per gallon.
Contain at least 1.6 pounds of total solids per gallon and at least 20% total milk solids.
Contain no more than 100% overrun (the amount of air whipped into the mixture).

Products that don't meet those standards must still contain some milkfat and milk solids to be labeled a "frozen dairy treat".

It's simple math. You take the price and divide by the number of ounces and come up with the price per ounce. I find it hard to believe that Walmart's computers can't carry out simple division.

Have you tried a new power brick on your Amiko? It's slim pickings out there anymore. The FTA market in the US has pretty much been abandoned.

This would likely be your best bet, and Rick is a good seller. I've never had any issues with him:

The number-one US state for EV growth, according to the June 22 Yardi report?
Oklahoma.

:eek

It has no ZEV mandates and "minimal" incentives, Yardi says, but also has cheap electricity, high multi-car household rates (so, for example, a non-Lightning Ford F-150 pulls their trailers), and a consumer base willing to switch.

The EV company to watch out for is SAIC. They seem likely to take over Government Motors at some point.

GM originally struck a JV deal with SAIC to gain access to China. Now SAIC has taken China back with the substantial library of technology GM shared and they're looking to export to Mexico, South America, the Middle East, and Asia-Pacific.

GM said its next-generation vehicle architecture will provide 40 times more computing power and 30 percent less wiring than before and will expand from the 2028 Cadillac Escalade IQ to its high-volume SUVs, trucks, crossovers, and fourth-generation EVs, which will be powered by lithium manganese-rich (LMR) prismatic batteries

Despite the politicization and perceived consumer pivot away from EVs in America, GM needs to remain globally competitive, so it's doubling down on its fourth generation EVs, with energy-dense, cheaper-to-manufacture LMR batteries, more efficient motors, and state-of-the-art centralized computing architecture. With a stated goal of cutting the traditional four- to five-year concept-to-production time in half, GM is clearly challenging the concept of "China speed," which in the Chinese automotive industry can be as quick as 18 months from design to start of production. In the AI space, GM is smartly collapsing all of its marque-specific apps under the familiar OnStar brand, while providing more features—both on the phone and in the car—than it ever has before.

Sometimes a thread gets so many posts in it that is can cause issues for the server so that why today we introduce The Song Name Game Part 3!

So let the game continue!

The last song was added by Bobby who posted...

One Meat Ball - Andrews Sisters

CONTINUE ON AND HAVE FUN! WELCOME HOME TO SATELLITEGUYS.US!

Here are the original rules for the game as posted by WebbyDude back in 2006. http://www.satelliteguys.us/threads/68645-Song-Name-Game

Just name a song title and the band who performed it. The next person does the same thing, but needs to list a song title or band name which includes a word from the previous entry. Pick songs from any genre.

Example:

Long Live Rock and Roll -- Rainbow

Rainbow in the Dark -- Dio

Another example:

Ride the Lightning -- Metallica

Lightning Strikes -- Ozzy Osbourne

Get it?

An additional note: we all know that song titles, sometimes, use profane words. Because this is a family friendly website it is advised that you clean up that title up a bit. This is accomplished by using something like sh!t instead of the real word. Thanks....
