SKYWAYUSA is a joke

Ive had skywayusa for over 7 mths now and its worthless, fighting with it every night, customer support is terrible . to much invested in this garbage to have these problems, such as went threw 3 LNB's so far, 2 modems and have green signal. Report to better businnes bureau is not far off, if anyone else has problems with this business please let me no.

Indivdual siting needs and satellite internet consultation

I know a lot of this discussion has focused on Skyway as a cheaper alternative. I am in a different situation. My husband and I are professionals and wanted high speed internet that works. We paid quite a lot to get Wildblue going 3 years ago, and it has been terribly slow most of the time. I don't know how much of this is the dish being installed at the bottom of the roof, whether there were trees in the way, and the local fog. But I often had no connection on sunny days as well as foggy days, lots of dropped connections. Increasingly, the days when it was running well were the exception rather than the rule. Time is money, and I got tired of spending so much time on the phone with Wildblue, and the problem not really getting fixed. We bought the best package Skyway has to offer, and it is working great. I hope it continues this way. I don't think that there is one satellite internet company that works best for rural folks everywhere. I think the topography, potential installation sites, customer needs, weather, and location in relationship to the various satellites make the difference on which is best.

Given the cost of installation and long-term contracts, I think there is a market for professional consultation from those with expertise in the various systems with no vested interest in one company or the other. Someone who could look at line of site, knows potential problems related to topography and weather, and could give an opinion on which satellite internet company would work best, if any.

Is this at all realistic?

Absolutely. It's called a site survey. Skyway of course doesn't offer the service unless you pay for the professional install and/or prearrange a survey yourself. Might even be an additional charge, but that I can't say for sure. Hughesnet, Wildblue, iDirrect - Starband too I think - are supposed to automatically perform a site survey before the equipment even comes outa the box.

But that's where the human factor enters the picture;
a) most new customers are clueless
b) some installers take advantage of that.
As a result, some of the lesser installers skip the site survey part - throw the system up - and hope for the best. I feel that's what happened with your WB system. Too bad there was nobody smart enough in Wb tech support to pick up on that for you. But to be fair, it's your responsibility to address line of site issues that crop up after the trial period.

The smart ones do NOT buy satellite internet from an online source. They find a local or area dealer/installer, and work through him - starting with the site survey. Online sellers send in some travelling installer, and usually seller nor installer is ever seen or heard from again. Local guys on the other hand - well, you know where they live.

Until Skyway get's rid of the 3 stooges in charge they will always be sub-par at very best. I feel sorry for Dwayne and Michael as they are both oblivious to the internal idiocy that goes on there.

Skyway Rebate

Have had Skyway for 8 months now, was promissed a rebate (100.00) never got it.. The Quest phone #'s they were using pulled out of our area so I had to get 3rd party dialup..Skyway said my monthly bill would be reduced to 26.95 per month becaus of this.. NONE of this has happened, and I think my dial up was almost as fast.. and heavens forbid trying to use it when it rains.....
There has to be something that can be done!!!

Many others never received the rebate check, including myself. Keep calling. Leaving a msg is wasting time. If you continue calling, and no one answers, file a complaint with the BBB. You'll eventually get it.

DIRECTV Cutting Edge Non Disclosure Agreement

In order to participate in any Cutting Edge testing, you must sign a Non Disclosure Agreement (NDA). Attached are a .docx (Microsoft Word) and PDF version of the latest DirecTV NDA. I found it easiest to complete the .docx version then paste a photo or scan image of my signature, cropped closely to just the signature into it as a picture. Then set Word to wrap text around the picture so that the picture follows the text "Signature".

People who have better PDF tools than I do may prefer that version.

When you apply for any Cutting Edge testing, you will be told how to send the signed copy.

Any NDA you have signed before is still valid for the testing you have been and hopefull still are doing. The new NDA forms are ror new CE testers and new categories of CE testing. They have been placed here so that people who volunteer for any CE testing have access to them.

Still with Choice package? My stepdad says when the game started he got black screen and something to do with not the right package.

I went into the Tools menu and requested a Guide Update. I'll try looking at it after the update completes.

edit — I now have the 148-01 4KFox events for Saturday, but not anything for 148-02 or 148-03 which don't even show as available channels. I do have 148-04 4KUSA.

As I recall you have the Flex package. Do you sub to multisport? -02 is FS1 and -03 is ESPN. -01 is Fox so you would get that if you sub to locals.

As an edit, you need to sub to the National Action Pack at $12 a month to receive those channels.

Which is what is interesting, I see the 4KFox channel on 148-01 but we're not subscribed to our Locals. So why it's coming in is puzzling. I thought that maybe it was a perk for Dish subscribers for the MLB Postseason.

I set a Timer for the Indiana - Ohio State game on Saturday. I'll take advantage of it while I can.

But by law food product packaging must display the actual net weight of the product, i.e., the contents of the container, so by any logic, if not law, a store's stated per-ounce cost should reflect that figure. But since there's not any law regulating shelf statements, a store can say whatever it wants without violating any rules. So I guess the answer is more consumer legislation. Or simply caveat emptor.

But a box can weigh more than an ounce..maybe 2...a can might weigh 5 ounces..a bag...not much

You need to weigh the actual bag...a deli bag weighs less than that but a thick coffee bag is gonna weigh around an ounce...an empty tin can has some weight

Products sold by the ounce, pound, etc, should always be priced for the product only. Only the shipping weight should include the packaging.

Unless the specific product or its packaging is known at the time of weighing, estimating the tare weight for a PoS system is a tall order.

I'm pretty sure that produce bags can't get any thinner.

You certainly don't want to put unbagged produce on a belt, scale, or in a clerk's hands (gloved or not).

You would be thinking wrong when it comes to goods that are sold by weight (meat, produce, nails). Those items typically go on the scale wrapped without an associated tare. The weight only excludes the sticker because it hasn't been printed yet.

The larger discrepancies are likely from a data or sync issue. Digital tags don't cause the error, but they can spread one bad entry across a whole store or region instantly. The small cent differences are probably just rounding in the weight, the price data, or both.

Perhaps only for sliced meat and cheese. Salads and similarly "shifty" or "drippy" items are typically weighed in deli cartons of some sort.

My monster burritos (up to two lbs.) are weighed in their foil jackets or paper mache take-out trays, and the jacket/tray is then "sealed" with the printed label as it comes off the printer.

Precision has to give way to practicality in situations like that.

You mean you were pirating the VCII and entering "Wizard numbers" every month after key change? GI finally resorted to changing out the keys twice as often, then even more often, down to just hours, making it mostly untenable?

When i was a kid, i used to salivate envisioning me having a Cband dish. It wasn't until about 1995, I installed my first Cband dish, and i remember it took me about 2 weeks to get that dish aligned properly.. This was before internet, and i had to call and talk with people on the phone about advice on how to properly tune the dish. I can't remember the receiver, but it had a UHF remote. I had the satellite receiver in the living room, but i ported it to two TV's, one in the living room and one in the bedroom. It was so nice being able to control the receiver with the remote in the bedroom about 40 feet from the living room. I remember watching Rosanne feeds where it would air the entire week in succession. Nice nostalgia.

That is a misnomer. In the old days you subscribed to telephone service. That included the telephone line and one telephone. An extension cost $1 a month extra. So that $14,000 over 42 years was for the service not the leased telephone. There is no way they paid $28 a month for 42 years for a leased telephone.

All DMA's now Western Arc

I know HipKat said that they were working on conversions but we got the official news yesterday right from Dish that starting next month all DMA's will be on the western arc, and all customers will be assigned to that. That's gonna mean a lot of customers around here aren't gonna get Dish unless there are exceptions. Too many mountains and trees.

Also Echostar 26 another super satellite on order for 119 orbital location will be ready in 15 months. he will have 110/119 for another 20 years. Dish will be the only satellte company left. The reason for rural areas and some people like satellite easy to operate and change channels in seconds.

I hope these new "most powerful" satellites will mean that DISH can provide every channel that can be sourced in HD in HD. I do not like the fact that two of my favorite channels (Start and H&I) are SD. I was also very disappointed after installation that METV has to be streamed from my internet connection. Finally, I dropped the locals upon seeing that my local CW channel is in blurry letterboxed SD when it has been HD OTA for years.

my me t.v. is in HD via the sat. though it's better PQ via ota

This piece gets me - the fact that Dish has removed SD channels from satellite completely in the name of "HD upgrades". I pay for satellite TV, not streaming...I don't see why they couldn't leave the SD version of the channels on Satellite then put the HD streaming version like they have for other channels.

Yes, I considered D* as I knew some of my favorite channels had better PQ but too many require moving up to the "Choice" package and incurring the Regional Sports Fee.
I do not have METV or any of the Weigel owned channels here in El Paso.
