Several weeks ago, I ordered a Voom package. My experiences (mostly negative) with the order process can be viewed at this thread.

***Note***
If you just wanna see my performance and not my install experience, skip to the last two paragraphs.

I had previously been notified by Don Lor's that the installing tech would give me a call early today, and this did occur. Right after 8AM he calls and states he'd like to move my install to the morning and suggested 11AM. I agreed with the time and was home at 10:55AM waiting for his arrive. Waited for a good while 'til right around 11:25AM, I was curious as to whether he would still come so I called their main offices for a status. I waited for about 8 minutes through numerous repeats of their holding menus only to finally give up. I called again 5 mins later and got thru. She put me on hold and paged the installer to my number then returned to the phone and said he'd call me immediately. Well, I saw him drive by immediately then call me back 5 minutes later saying "What's your house number?". I'm not sure why it took 5 minutes to call me after he passed my house as I live on a dead end street with only about 18 houses, but anyway, he finally got there and the process began.

I won't bore anyone with too many details, but I requested no diplexer and was denied, I requested a ground mounting (like my immediate neighbor has) and was asked to reschedule. I allowed him to mount it on the roof and I liked the obscurety of the placement. On the back end of the roof and not visible from the street. He installed a powered system because I was pretty far from the tower I suppose. Overall, he was a pretty good guy so I'll cut him some slack on the little things I didn't like.

The overall organization of this process was pretty bad. Almost no documentation, contradictory statements in the install acknowledgement paperwork, relative inflexibility from the installer, and a somewhat dissapointing experience.

We installed onto my Sony 42" plasma TV using the DVI interface (I kept all other cables and such for future testing). Turned the receiver on and a few moments later, I was pretty much in awe of the quality of the HDNews picture. I have not yet connected the STB to my audio receiver so I won't yet comment on the digital audio. It worked enough to where I was comfortable that I could at least play with it when I had time, but I was about 2 hours behind schedule by this point and I didn't want to test it too thoroughly at that time. I did notice that my Off-Air Signal Quality mostly stayed in the low teens and my Off-Air Signal Power stayed consistently at 62. Some channels, especially local, have real difficulty being recognized. I asked about this, and the installer insisted that it was ok and just fluctuates often. I just accepted it as it was, because I didn't have time to explore it further.

I came back later in the day and had the local Fox2 station on while I was stripping some carpet up in the next room. Display was clear as I walked back and fourth and the sound was consistent. I stopped and checked the OASQ and noticed it was constant at 60. Great improvement to me so I felt as though maybe things would go smoothly from there. Not exactly. I dragged some carpet out to the garage and as I entered the house and walked through the living room, I hit my remote garage door button to close the garage door, immediately the channel went dead. I'm like "WTH?" and I hit the garage button again and sure enough, back comes Fox2. So I go in the menu and monitor the status. After about 5 minutes of tested it's become obvious to me that I pretty much need to leave my garage door open if I want to watch Fox2 or NBC anytime soon. ABC seems to do a little better (great since I got this darn thing to watch the Pistons in HD on ABC). Now I'm not quite sure how I wish to approach this. This is pretty strange, anyone have a comment or suggestion? Anyway, that's about all for now. I'll comment more later as I play with this thing.

Actually, I'm thinking your OTA antenna is picking up a reflected signal when the garage door is open vs closed.

I would say some re-pointing is in order and if you can do it yourself...do it.
me too, but more than repointing. relocating the antenna and repointing?

One week later, my current situation:

I received the firmware update on Saturday Night/Sunday Morning and of course noticed some differences. One being the annoying warning/pause that occurs when entering the system menu. Another being an obvious change in the Sat Signal Quality. Pretty consistent in the low 90s on a clear day and the low 80s in mild rain. However, the OTA Sig Quality is still pretty terrible. Although it's listed in the low 50s most of the time, it fluctuates between 3 and 53. There's almost no chance of my watching any OTA channel except for ABC (Thankfully that's what I really wanted). As is, this will have to get resolved or I simply can't use it. I've gotta be able to watch Sandra Ali on Fox2 News. ;)

In saying that, how should I handle this? Contact Voom or the local installer (Don Lor's)?
that fluctuation is multipathing. what kind of antenna is it? if its omni directional do you need a directional one? voom will change it if it needs to be changed.

Don't know what type it is. I'm not even sure of the size as when picking it up I though it was pretty big, but the installer insisted that it was only 18'.
C
Here's my story:
First an installer came one day with a "stealth" antenna. I told him immediately that my house is outside of the antenna's range and that he should install the largest available antenna. He told me I would have to pay for it but I rejected the installation completely and he called his boss and Voom and was told to reschedule the installation until he gets the larger antenna (for free).
Next week he came again with a laaaarge directional antenna. Then I insisted that he calls Voom and asks about running two cables instead using diplexers since he initially rejected it. He didn't like it but both Voom and his supervisor told him that it's okay to run two cables. He even tried to convince me earlier that I won't be able to receive any signal without diplexers. Duh!
When he finished the installation I could get just one OTA channel and the guy told me that's all I can get. He left, and after few days I called Voom and complained about not having more then one OTA channel and not getting a DVI cable. They called Installs Inc and few days later the same guy called me back to schedule the OTA problem and to install DVI. He came few days later and told me again that the antenna is pointed in the best direction and that I cannot get more OTA channels. I insisted that he goes back on the roof and rotates the antenna left or right to see what happens. He really didn't like it but went back on the roof. Well, he just slightly moved it left and guess what? I got all available digital channels from Atlanta area (9-10 channels).
And I didn't have to pay a dime for all that. I guess a little bit bitching works? Maybe you should call them back too.

I'm in agreement with Bill in that I think it's a reflective issue more than anything else. If by re-pointing you mean relocating the dish, then that's not gonna work. There's no way I'm turning my beautiful roof into swiss cheese or letting an installer do it. I could just turn the dish try turning the dish a little, if that's what you mean. The channels are coming in really poorly today, btw and I'm even more dissapointed. I'll wait for the firmware update before I call back though.

Have you checked out www.antennaweb.org to see how far away from the broadcast towers you are, and what direction they are in? Which direction is your OTA antenna pointed? What does the antenna look like? Like Biggles stated, I think your best bet is to try re-aiming or possibly re-locating your OTA antenna based on where the broadcast towers are.

As you may have noticed we are doing a Fund Raiser for SatelliteGuys!

As many of you know I have been paying for a majority of the operation of the site out of my own pocket for awhile now. Now looking at things we have a number of renewals coming up that I could use some help with. These renewals include the license renewal for our Forum Software, Renewal of a number of our add on's the site uses, renewal of domain names etc.

I have set a goal of $400.00 - any extra that comes in will just go to fund the operations of the site. None of the money will go to me (I tried BuyMeACoffee a few months ago, and they denied me saying they do not do business with Satellite Piracy sites... which we are not... hell we host the beta programs for both DISH and DIRECTV here...)

Anyways... if you would like to help out please click the link below.

Thank you in advance. :)

I planned on removing it today, but then my fathers car broke down and I had to drive him all around to get his stuff done. Then I had a doctors appointment after that which was annoying...

Dr asks me if I have had any changes, so I tell him something wrong with me that started a month or so ago and his reply back is, that it sucks to get old... I hate that. Why ask me. if your going to come back with a smart ass answer.

Anyays I hope to get rid of Tapatalk tomorrow. :)

And we had more people donate today, thank you! The extra money is going to future expenses since things like add ons don't expire at the same time.

THANK YOU, THANK YOU, THANK YOU AGAIN!

No excuse for a flippant response like that from a doctor! I'd be looking for a different one.

Tapatalk has been removed.

I have added a new feature which is a work in progress called "Social Feed" which displays the forums Facebook style. Its nice for people who like that, but needs work. But i have been watching this one for awhile and the author is being really responsive to suggestions and adding them. So if you have any please let me know and I can pass them along. :)

Due to security concerns and the fact that the Tapatalk Plugin for Xenforo is no longer being updated we have removed Tapatalk support from SatelliteGuys.

For those who were using it we recommend using our PWA App instead which is faster and does not have all the spam Tapatalk had. Below is a graphic showing how to add SatelliteGuys to your devices home screen. (While iOS is shown the process is mostly the same for Android.)

Thanks for your understanding. :)

Caught up to the 500... err... k in St. Louis. What a race! Andretti Motorsport were doing very well with Ericsson and Kirkwood, meanwhile Power was moving up the grid. Veekay started cautiously. He was working the tires just right, becoming more lethal later in the stint. Rasmussen was racing likewise, not nearly as insane as he has in the past. Palou was leading the race, in a shocker to all. Caio Collet was having a wonderful ride, making Ferucci potentially sweat a bit. Rain came, rain went, rain came, rain went. Generally mild sprinkles, but enough to pause racing on an oval.

Palou would kind of send Siegel into the wall. Siegel really didn't do much wrong. As he noted, you have to turn at some point. Palou had acres of room below and Siegel might have had his ticket out of Indycar stamped. Dixon was doing the fuel thing and got busted twice by yellows, not pitting before the flag came out. Then the most critical happened... Palou ran out of gas on pit lane, effectively giving Newgarden the race lead and win. Newgarden had a very early pit, so he was able to slide in, get service and go. Meanwhile, everyone else was confused and stuck behind Palou for a bit. Once people figured what was happening, Newgarden had a major advantage of several seconds. Newgarden wouldn't look back and when it went green again, he'd hold the lead for the win.

Massive credit to Juncos Hollinger who bested Penske in getting Veekay out before Malukas in a transition that was oddly bizarre. I haven't had time to check, but I'm wondering if Veekay was about to run out of fuel or cut a tire. He was charging late in a stint, got up to fifth, and then tailed back for a few laps to 10th or 11th. It looked like it was over. Went into the pits, and after the pitting sequence was over, Veekay was well inside the top ten again. It was weird. And he charged, getting up to fourth. He made a late move on Rasmussen, but Rasmussen held his position with some great driving. In fact, there was a ton of incredible racing passing, not passing all race long. Veekay would finish 4th. A podium would have been awesome, but it is a great outcome for a guy who hopefully will get a break with a big team. We saw what Veekay could do with a Honda last season with fuel save, imagine replacing Simpson on Ganassi and having speed to go with fuel saving. His 6th at Indy and 4th at St. Louis get him up to 13th in the points standings and only 5 points outside of the top 10.

Ericsson finished second, resigned to finishing behind the current best in the world guy on a short oval. Rasmussen got the final step on the podium, a nice rebound to what has been an otherwise bad year for him, and a good reward to ECR who just extended his contract.

They raced USAC cars at Daytona once. Once! People died. Aj Foyt said 'f this', and left after the first go around. AJ freaking Foyt thought it was crazy! And cars weren't nearly as fast as they are now.

I think they tried Talladega once too.

So I have recently setup Indoor OTA due to drop to Local from Dish, and found out reason why I have such bad signal is my Monitor now none of cable for my monitor near OTA or it cable going to TV, but the TV right above my Monitor maybe not even a foot.

If i have 3 to 2 bars with monitor off said channel for most part of perfectly watchable, but as soon my monitor is ON (show image of desktop or what ever) OTA going to TV halved that 3 to 2 bars become 1 and 2 if I lucky and channels start scrambling alot, and depending on what is being shown on monitor it might out right give no signal, and I can easily restore singal to being bad if change what show on monitor or bring back 3 to 2 bars if I turn monitor off or let it to to standby mode.

I have already disconnect every cable on TV except the OTA cable leaving just that so it not those cable. the Power cable for monitor and DP to DVI cable the monitor is using no where near that OTA cable either.

Any idea on how to fix this? moving my monitor isnt exactly an option neither is moving the tv and moving the OTA to other side room even with long cable dont fix this issue.

I have one those Leaf MoHu antennas 11x3 ones, I had same issue with one gateway mohu antennas the older one too

Do you have any splitters or combiners in between the antenna and TV? That can cause issues, especially indoors.

I would get that antenna into the attic or outside if at all possible.

And we need your Rabbitears reception report to really be able to provide answers specific to your location-

I get I just need to short out the monitor from kill the signal to the tv cause the monitor being on and show image basically castrates signal

I just moved wires around moved power cord away data cord and what not, and some made this issue worse just have my monitor on and show image was enough to just kill signal, I went and moved monitors data cable DP to DVI cable and it came back even if was still spotty at best, now I think it DP to DVI cable I using considering moving seem maninpulate how bad the signal that cable is still no where near OTA cable or any cables going to the tv, the tv and monitor are on the same surge protector though

Far as i know they are all ground as surge protector is grounded this particular mode APC PV11V3 has wiring/fualt light that should go on if it not grounded and it not on protection light is green and on too . I not very knowledge about all that electrical grounding so i just go by what it tells me, my other surge protecter has grounded light on I could probably just plug to same outlet this one is to see if actual grounded

Monitor has 3 prog power cord the TV is 2 prog

Sounds like there may be some RF coming from your monitor (presumed to be a computer monitor?) being picked up by the TV's proximity to the monitor.
Move the TV or the computer at least 5 ft away.
If it is cabling to monitor it would show up while the computer is on and whether the monitor is off or on.

Sadly moving the monitor (Asus VS248) is not really an option I would have move my entire room which I not about to do. Computer is under desk said monitor is on, but turn the computer off does stop signal from droping so long as monitor is on, as I test that by connecting my ps5 to that and it happened there too

I do know that Moving the DP to DVI cable under desk can and does effect the signal, depending on where that cable is I might have spotty signal or no signal out all with the monitor on. but soon as it is off signal is fine.

The DP to DVI cable is shielded and the coxial cable is a shielded RG6 cable

I will see about moving the monitor 5+ feet way just to see if proximity to tv is issue. but that wont really solve my issue cause moving desk and there for computer and monitor isnt really option

Maybe wrap the monitor in aluminum foil? Just as a test to see if it's radiating RFI that's overwhelming the OTA tuner. Obviously not a viable long-term fix.
worth try I see what happen when I get hand on some aluminum foil

Can you move the Antenna away from the monitor ?
Antenna is 8 feet away from tv I tried put 10 feet way didnt make difference

If I being honest after NHL Stanley Cup games I will probably stop caring and disconnect the OTA anyway cause I dont watch anything on anyway just my mom does and she attenna on here tv that really not much better it just dont have singal halve issue I have but it would be nice if I could fix,

probably the easy fix would be to get Tablo put antenna in attic like dad thinking of doing run coaxial to tablo and let feed tvs that way

Well, it's grounded up to the Surge Protector anyways ... but if not 3rd prong, it's not grounded ... I don't recall if my TV's have a ground, guess I never thought about it ...
Now ya got me curious, I got to check.

Well, thats interesting, I thought all TV's were grounded ... guess not, maybe they figure if the voltage gets that far, its not going to save the TV ... :(

Something to try. Using an extension plug the TV into a completely different source of AC. Monitor may be feeding noise back into AC.

EchoStar has filed with FCC for license and launch of the EchoStar 25 satellite at the nominal 110W slot.

------"At the nominal 110° W.L. orbital location, EchoStar is licensed to operate over 29 of the available 32 DBS channels (specifically channels 1-27, 29,and 31).3 Currently, EchoStar provides service over these channels from the 110° W.L. cluster utilizing the EchoStar 10, EchoStar 11 (in inclined orbit), and EchoStar 23 satellites; and from the 119° W.L. cluster utilizing the EchoStar 14 and EchoStar 15 satellites. EchoStar anticipates that EchoStar 25 will be ready for launch as early as the first quarter of 2026. EchoStar anticipates that EchoStar 25, a spot-beam satellite, will take over delivery of certain programming services from EchoStar 10 and 14. After launch and in-orbit testing ("IOT"),4EchoStar 25 will proceed directly to 110.0° ± 0.05° W.L. Once EchoStar 25 is placed into operation, EchoStar 10 will initially remain at 110.2° W.L. serving as an in-orbit spare and may ultimately be relocated subject to all appropriate Commission authorizations. EchoStar 14 will remain at the nominal 119° W.L. orbital location and serve as an in-orbit spare once EchoStar 25 begins service." -----

I can tell the new satellite is active... When I go to the point dish menu, here in Chicago, 110 TP 27, which is a Spotbeam, for me with the old satellite was in the signal strength 50's-60's, is now just fluttering between 16-18.

I just picked up my tickets around 8 P.M. local time and it is kind of late planning I know but I am leaving here in just a few and heading up to Peotone to stay the night tonight in a hotel and be there for tomorrow night as well. Its 9:21 P.M. Central Time now. I am hoping to beat the possible thunderstorms and fog early this morning up there and the weather there tomorrow as well. I oh so hope they play and no severe weather! Anyways, I just unhooked my Wally receiver and my DISH Playmaker and I am taking it with me. Peotone is in the Chicago Locals market and with me having a DISH Outdoors account I can change it when I get up there. I will have a check when I get there and I can post and let you know. I can put the antenna on top of the roof of the vehicle and run a 12 ft. coaxial cable running through the trunk into the vehicle. I have a DC to AC converter in the vehicle and can bring my Cloner Alliance ViewPRO to use as a the screen. I may even watch a little TV throughout the evening as well and maybe a little WGN as well. I miss WGN. I use to watch the Cubs, White Sox, and Bulls games on WGN and listen to the news and Tom Skilling a bunch. I hated it in December of 2014 when it became a standard cable network only. This will be only my 2nd time since they became a standard cable network and now defunct and rebranded as NewsNation that I actually get to see WGN again. The only other time was in 2016 up in Chicago as well and they were a standard cable network here then and not available locally. I now need to get going. I will let you know later.

Well I made it safely to Peotone, IL and got checked in. Sitting in the vehicle right now and everything is hooked up and ran and locals changed through the App.

I only have 2 words. "Very Interesting"

This is going to take awhile to post all of this and get all of this right so I am going to be looking up some info as I type.

Now done!

Wow! About an hour's worth!

So it appears they changed as well to the 110 Satellite and using 2 Spotbeams 12 & 26.

Got to head up to my room and get some sleep. I will be here until late afternoon tomorrow before I head up to the game and will be back here after the game tommorow night and head back home Thursday morning.

Take care everyone and have a good night and a good Wednesday and Thursday. Probably won't be back on until Thursday.

This is really interesting. Thanks for posting the Chicago locals - I still can't add them to my account for some reason.

But what I find even more interesting is that you are reporting that some of the Chicago locals are on 110, TP 12. However, right now some of the national sports channels for the out of market sports channels are on 110, TP 12 as well. MLB Network Alternate, for example, is currently on 110, TP 12. And to my knowledge, the same transponder cannot be both a national ConUS transponder as well as a local spotbeam. I wonder if having both satellites active at the same time is causing some coding issue or something like that - for my receiver, it is as if it is checking one satellite, times out, then checks the second satellite for the signal strength.

Sometimes a thread gets so many posts in it that is can cause issues for the server so that why today we introduce The Song Name Game Part 3!

So let the game continue!

The last song was added by Bobby who posted...

One Meat Ball - Andrews Sisters

CONTINUE ON AND HAVE FUN! WELCOME HOME TO SATELLITEGUYS.US!

Here are the original rules for the game as posted by WebbyDude back in 2006. http://www.satelliteguys.us/threads/68645-Song-Name-Game

Just name a song title and the band who performed it. The next person does the same thing, but needs to list a song title or band name which includes a word from the previous entry. Pick songs from any genre.

Example:

Long Live Rock and Roll -- Rainbow

Rainbow in the Dark -- Dio

Another example:

Ride the Lightning -- Metallica

Lightning Strikes -- Ozzy Osbourne

Get it?

An additional note: we all know that song titles, sometimes, use profane words. Because this is a family friendly website it is advised that you clean up that title up a bit. This is accomplished by using something like sh!t instead of the real word. Thanks....
