I switched from Dish to TW 14 months ago. After having Dish for 7 years they would not let me bundle my Dish with my ATT because that was only for new customers. After a long discussion the Dish rep more or less told me they did not care if I left so I cancelled. Got a great TW deal for the last year.

Yesterday I called Dish to sign back up and get the HD promotion going on with the HD DVR for free. No doing I was told. It seems that if you have ever been a Dish customer and leave and then try to come back they punish you for having ever left.
I was told that if I had EVER been a Dish customer, left and then came back I was disqualified for any of the promotions for a new customer.
I could not believe this. When I left last year they told me that after being gone for six months if I came back I would be considered a new customer.
So at this time I am going to stick with TW for the time being. Directv is worse on price and start up costs than Dish. Uverse is available in my neighborhood but only one HD tv at a time on a HD channel so that does not work.
To me this attitude by Dish is ridiculous. I was going to sign up for the 250 package with HD and four total televisions. Why in the world does a company run off paying customers?

Anyone know if there is a way around this?

Contract provisions are at DISH discretion. You should know that by now. Irregardless, telling a customer how to get around the system is fine and well. In some cases it might even net you a customer for life. But each time you do it you're taking money our of DISH's pocket. And Charlie being Charlie, doesn't care much for that so suddenly switches are no longer reimbursed for, service calls are worth less, commissions drop or residuals are lowered.

I understand the customer service point and one thing that can be said for DISH is in the last few years they're getting back to their customer service roots. But each time retailers tell the customers how to get around DISH's systems, it's the retailers that pay for it. At any rate customer's only care about getting service, equipment or savings for free, and companies don't consider the consequences of cheating so here we go. But in five years when Charlie decides to say "Well... you guys have been bleeding my pockets for fifteen years and you know what? We hired the best 10% of all retailers onto the company and we don't need the rest of you anymore." don't be surprised. Charlie doesn't like a lot of things, but Charlie ESPECIALLY doesn't like people messing with his money. And I don't blame him.

But if "messing with his money" means winning back a lost customer, then what is truly lost? The person who started this thread would be sending money to Dish again every month at this point, if a Dish rep hadn't been so unbending and pigheaded.

Maybe, but here's the counterargument. A customer that jumps ship once is likely to do so again within 3-5 years. A customer that jumps ship twice, is just about GUARANTEED to jump ship again within 5. That means if the customer carries your average pack and single receiver, they're banking 49.00 a month give or take tax. They're worth just over 500 a year. At an average of 700 to buy that customer, (think single install 622) with one upgrade after 12 with a free install, and no programming package changes, and usually a questionable pay history, (let's not forget those 50-200 in rebates former customers pretending to be new ones demand) and Charlie's getting jerked around for about 2,000 per customer every two years.

Add in the regular credits for calling in and threatening to quit again just to see what happens, and it's just bad business. You're better off signing up kids that just moved into their first apartment than repeat offenders and sat hoppers.
B
Call a local retailer and tell him the situation. If you left in good standing with Dish Hetwork, he can put in a claim for a Former Customer Promotion. The only difference between that an a new customer is you will not get the $49.99 credit back on your first bill. The dealer will not his full commission but he should still do it to get a new customer. I know I do it all the time.

I guess ZERO is on the Dish payroll after reading his replys. ZERO, you wil be upset to know that I got an offer from Dish in the mail since I posted this thread begging me to come back and offering the new customer deal, even though "I jumped ship" previously and went to a competitor.
Get over it dude, we are a free society and we can choose who we get our television feed from. I am planning on going back to Dish, but I cannot say I will not go somewhere else in the future. I guess you buy you gasoline and groceries and clothes all from the same place you always have?
Poke
Acoldstarnolds I will PM you someone to try that works for Dish. Let them know what happens see what they can do for you. Sounds like whoever you spoke with might not have know what they were talking about.

DishNetwork was wrong on this one. They lost a good customer! You should be able to qualify for new customer promotions after canceling an account for 6 months. Could you have it in another name or address? I would try calling back. Maybe you can get a knowledgeable agent to help.

Try requesting speaking to a supervisor or an account specialist.

Best of luck.

I just received 6 receiver 2 port mini Multiswitch and it work great, no external power need it, and you can connect 6 receiver instead of 4 on most Mini Multiswitches... If anyone is interested in where they can get one PM me....

Have you tested using external power? Over the years, have found unpowered polarity switching to be unreliable. Especially problematic when used with DiSEqC motors or switch stacking.

I bought the fixed color version of these bulbs for my store several years ago...work great and no more replacing ballast. Finally had one go out and when I went back to Amazon I saw that now they come in selectable versions so no more guess work as to what color light would do best in a certain area. They are now double OR single ended...used to be strictly one way or the other. If any of you are looking at replacing the old style 4 or 8 ft bulbs, you might want to give these a try. The 8 footers are BRIGHT. I put 5 in my shooting/target shed and you can get a decent tan if you are in there long enough.

When we re-lamped my in-Laws' house for sale last year, we were able to get all the Edison bulbs and a few fixtures with switch-selectable Color Temperature. We tried a few and settled on 3000°K as the best fit for the house. Matching the lighting in all the rooms made for an inviting experience. The Shop was the only place that we went with 4000°K for the LED 4' fixtures.

The house was sold within a month of going on the market, so we must have done something right.

The other advantage is if the new owners decide that they prefer a warmer light, they can unscrew the bulbs (I think it was close to 70 bulbs) and set them to the 2500K/2700K settings.

I'll have to check these out. Thanks!

For some reason, the satelliteguys.us site is loading a lot slower than usual on both Chrome on my Asus laptop and Safari on my iPhone.
I'm also seeing longer appearances of the blue bar at the top and the "3 blue bars" loading symbol.
Is anyone else also having the same problem? Thanks in advance.

Just doing a big security update on the server, may slow down then again it may not. Just wanted to warn you guys. :D

Ok the update is complete. :)

Scott, I was having major issues getting connected around noon ET. Looks fine now. I captured a Safari session that was showing high CPU utilization in the Rendering of the page, like 90+%. I have a JSON file I created that I could share.

Been using the site at that time and saw no issues. A quick look at the logs shows nothing strange.

Yeah. It's probably something going on with the MacBook as my iPhone has been pretty snappy.

Love Tony in Charge as director. Liked how the Secretary of Navy told him that the press release about him being the new director of NCIS had went out an hour ago. See you on Monday! when she left. I hate the LaRoche guy and wanted him to get taken down. He reminded me of Pete Hegseth the way he looked and his haircut.

I originally thought that Tim had shot LaRoche .... awhile back when they had that dispute about who was going to Win, when they had him as Dirty ... was I thinking someone else ? (it was obviously, last year.)

You don't like Tony, or Tony as the Director (he's only been there for 30 seconds now) or you don't like NCIS ?

Apple has finally released their Apple TV 4K with built-in Siri and a microphone so it can respond to your queries even if you don't have the remote. It also increases in price, to $299. I had been planning on updating my current Apple TV 4K streamers, but that's $600 for the two of them, and that's a pass at this point.

At $299, it had better come with 256 GB of Storage, Gigabit (or better) Ethernet, the latest HDMI tech and standards, and one year of free Apple One. But it probably won't…

Meh. The 4Ks I have will do everything that these do that I need them to do.

Which that's most tech these days for anything released the last four to five years.

It's honestly a testament to how good the previous gen Apple TVs were and are.

Don't tell them that. They'll adopt planned obsolescence.

The only thing I can see that is compelling is the AV1 decoding done in the A19's hardware instead of the current ATV4K's processor.

Outside of gaming, would Joe Sixpack notice any difference?

On Tuesday, I recorded the first episodes of the new season's NCIS shows on CBS (Dish provided, not OTA). The new New York series and Origins will both do Auto Skip, but the original, now season 24 does not. What's stranger, when I do a search for NCIS, Origins and New York show the current recording and the next episode it will record, but the original show only shows the current recording and some other channel showing the very first episode of season one. It makes no sense. When I set up the timers, I was able to use search for Origins and New York, but for the original, I had to scroll ahead in the guide until last Tuesday when the show was airing. Then set the timer from there. You can see its timer type is DVR where the other two are Seek. What am I missing?
Thanks!

With both CBS and Fox autohop (as we know) is not enabled for a week..But after 24 hours if you mash the FF button until the red kangaroo shows up in the bottom right you wont overshoot the program. No need to try to figure how long the break is.

Yep. We do this all the time, but we use the 30-sec skip forward button until the red kangaroo shows up. Love this feature.
