This isn't really a 522 question but it does involve a 522 (or six) Mods pls move if appropriate.

Yesterday we had a huge downpour which left my 522 with no signal.
After the rain stopped the receiver kept rebooting trying to aqcuire a signal but wouldn't lock, anyhow after the 5th time I tried unplugging it for 15 mins and trying again - exactly the same thing happened.
I called DN who had me try to reset the receiver but it wouldn't get out of this rebooting loop it was in they shipped a replacement to me which should be here tomorrow. I also asked him if we could cancel if my wife wanted to (She's sick of the whole thing re: http://www.satelliteguys.us/showthread.php?t=18815 )
and was told that we could.
How difficult is it to cancel my DHA? I honestly hate to but we've spent more time waiting for replacement parts and trying to get this thing installed than we've spent watching TV.

Thanks all.

I guess it depends on whather you want Dish or not. If things aren't working out, email ceo@dishnetwork.com with a good rant. They're pretty good about resolving such things.

Hmmm. This sounds like flooded cable connectors - check your installation. Got drip loops?
What are drip loops? Sounds like loops in the cable so water doesn't travel down it, but I'm just guessing. My intaller didn't put any loops in the cable run. Wonder if I'll have problems if it ever rains in Phoenix again.
D
If the installer actually used snap and seal connectors there is no reason to worry about water screwing up you connection.... Go figure..
boba
When you call DISH to cancel the CSR is supposed to give you the procedure. Basically DISH will send you boxes to put the equipment into. You have to remove it or pay to have it removed the boxes come with a prepaid UPS shipping label to return it to DISH free of charge.
T
if you went through a retailer, check & see if you have any 3rd party agreements with the retailers. even though dish has no contract directly, retailers want to recover their money back for the install. also the retailer should collect your equipment if within 180 days i believe.

if you went through dish directly, they'll send boxes & prepaid labels, so all you'll have to do is ship back the recievers, remotes & the lnb.

make sure you keep your ups tracking number when sending back the equipment!

Good Deal on NOS (New Old Stock) V-Box II DiSEqC Positioners. Found this ad on a website called Mercari.

Code:
https://www.mercari.com/us/item/m44259140261

This is a great price these days for a BUD Dish Positioner. You will pay more than twice this for a new positioner anywhere else. I think this guy has more than 1, although he only lists one at a time.

I am not vouching for the seller at all, so buy at your own risk, ask questions before you buy would be my advice. I am just posting this because these are hard to find and very expensive too. I figure this will help someone out.

Note:
These have Euro power cords, and are 220V. You will need a Power Converter Adapter to use this here in North America.

I posted pics of the Adapter i think will work good, you can find them on Amazon for $15-$20

Looking at the listing it says he is in Pennsylvania. I think he only has one and wants to sell a 10' dish also. Pictures show he has multiple C-Band and KU Band lnbf's attached to it.

Sometimes a thread gets so many posts in it that is can cause issues for the server so that why today we introduce The Song Name Game Part 3!

So let the game continue!

The last song was added by Bobby who posted...

One Meat Ball - Andrews Sisters

CONTINUE ON AND HAVE FUN! WELCOME HOME TO SATELLITEGUYS.US!

Here are the original rules for the game as posted by WebbyDude back in 2006. http://www.satelliteguys.us/threads/68645-Song-Name-Game

Just name a song title and the band who performed it. The next person does the same thing, but needs to list a song title or band name which includes a word from the previous entry. Pick songs from any genre.

Example:

Long Live Rock and Roll -- Rainbow

Rainbow in the Dark -- Dio

Another example:

Ride the Lightning -- Metallica

Lightning Strikes -- Ozzy Osbourne

Get it?

An additional note: we all know that song titles, sometimes, use profane words. Because this is a family friendly website it is advised that you clean up that title up a bit. This is accomplished by using something like sh!t instead of the real word. Thanks....

Hard question to answer as its based on where you are.

Verizon may be crap in your area and Boost may be good. Or Vice Versa.

I have played with all the carries in a number of areas and in each area there was a different best service for each.

Not the answer you were looking for I am sure.

I tested Boost here in CT and it was Horrible. I used the same device in Springfield Mass and the speeds were amazing. It all depends on where you are, so again a very very hard question to answer.

If you're on Verizon you're not going to have good service in one state or city and not others. I tried Twigby (which uses Verizon) and there was no notable difference. I then switched to Mint because Twigby could not do Canada or Europe, plus it was even cheaper. Mint doesn't charge extra for Canada and it's low per-week in Europe. I was a little concerned at first, as even though the service was strong everywhere I went, it was down to 1 bar at home...But within a few months that resolved. I've never had any issue with it, anywhere. I think it's like $15/mo. and I get an annual-buy discount. Gov't might as well just give us free service...but that's for those who don't use a lot of data, like watching videos. I've never hit a limit. You can buy higher limits and still likely come out cheaper than verizon.

That's because the one good thing the administration is doing is finally going after the fake and non-domiciled CDL drivers, opening the door to hire more valid drivers and hopefully will push the rates back up.

now let's get rid of the piss tanks and tampons off of diesels aka emissions crap since it can bankrupt someone!!! and get rid of ELD'S since they make some drivers drive like idiots trying to find a parking spot. starter mega carriers should not allow new drivers to train that's just a way for em to move cheap freight..

We have started cycling out our fleet, day cabs, but even those are sickeningly high compared to a few years ago.

Second of the crew was delivered today. First was crimson. This on is grey. On down the line we will go until replaced.

Continuing the Kilauea thread in the Pub here. Perhaps the Iceland one too next time there's remarkable activity.

Currently there is precursory lava flowing into the crater, leading to the next episode that'll probably start within the next day.

You can see the pace of inflation / deflation here. It serves as the primary predictor for when the expect the eruptions, which coincide w/ inflation turning into significant deflation and last for several hours on average with significant fountaining.

Wife and I like the AfarTV feeds, for the discussion along w/ them, though they're otherwise just mirrors of the official USGS feeds.

Geologist discusses Kilauea's activity

View: https://youtu.be/sQaF85OEnE8

Predicting Episode 51

  • Revised Timeline: The USGS has forecast that the next eruption—Episode 51—is expected to occur between July 11th and July 15th. The prediction was pushed back from original estimates due to variations in monitoring data [00:14 Opens in a new window ].
  • The Volcanic Tilt Deflation: Predicting the exact timing is difficult because the summit tilt meters showed a recent lull—a secondary deflationary trend or dip in the inflationary signal [03:42 Opens in a new window ]. This variation makes a linear timeline hard to pin down [04:24 Opens in a new window ].
  • Eruption Thresholds: Scientists track a localized threshold of roughly 8 to 9 micro radians of tilt before an eruptive episode triggers [04:05 Opens in a new window ].

Summit Vent Behavior & Low Seismicity

  • Active Vents: Two main vents are degassing at the crater: the north and south vents. While the north vent has been the primary lava fountaining producer for the last seven episodes, the south vent remains open and heavily active in gas output [00:58 Opens in a new window ].
  • Low Earthquake Frequency: Seismicity has remained unusually low near the summit (only 5 to 20 small earthquakes over the week) [05:45 Opens in a new window ]. Because the volcano erupts frequently every few weeks, pressure does not build up enough to break major underground rock systems [06:04 Opens in a new window ].

Changes to the Landscape (Episode 1 vs. Episode 50)

  • Crater Filling Up: Comparisons between Episode 1 (December 2024) and Episode 50 (June 2027) show that the crater floor has been filled significantly with lava, rising by roughly two-thirds of its original depth [07:55 Opens in a new window ].
  • Tephra Cone Formation: Due to powerful and consistent trade winds carrying tephra (volcanic debris) during lava fountaining, a distinct mound or hill has accumulated downwind to the southwest of the vents [08:16 Opens in a new window ].

Retrospective on Episode 50

  • Massive Fountains: Episode 50 occurred on June 27th and lasted about 7 hours. At its peak, lava fountaining reached incredible heights of up to 1,000 feet (over 300 meters) [06:58 Opens in a new window ].
  • Scientific Research: USGS scientists are actively helicoptering onto the crater floor to sample older tephra layers, analyzing their chemistry and size to compare historical eruptive cycles with Kīlauea's current sequence [09:58 Opens in a new window ].

Directv stream making me angry
Trying to watch the NASCAR race and when TNT 'goes to commercials' they overlay some stupid 'local' commercials. Yes all I have to do is switch channels and go back to the regular feed but the issue is Directv isn't 'going to commercials'.
Yes they are showing commercials but they are doing the split screen so you can still see the race just not hear the audio.

I get they (TNT) like to give you 'local commercial crap' but don't do it during the race when it's a split screen!!!
K
TNT's C-Band feed usually stops the side by side and has full screen ads and promos during the designated local ad breaks. They are also the ones who trigger the local ad breaks via cue tones that are sent to the C-Band receivers at every provider's headend, so it's also happening at the same time on Comcast, Spectrum, Dish, FiOS, YouTubeTV, etc.

The commercial break at 7:53pm ET was all full screen, with national ads for Arby's and Harbor Freight, promos for some HBO shows and TNT Sports when the local break was triggered, and then a national ad for Breztri after the local ad break ended before they returned to the race at around 7:56pm ET.

If local ads were being triggered at other times and covering up the side by side, that's likely a screwup by Turner/WBD as the avail notice for NASCAR they sent out says that the local breaks are only supposed to trigger between stages.
  • Wow
Reactions: lordodogg
M
They had some full commercial breaks between stages which is fine (they didn't switch to local ads during that…..interesting)
But during stage 1 every break was the side by side that got interrupted by the local crap.
It's rain delayed now
M
New week same sh*t
Hey Directv!!! DONT insert local commercials when they still show the race during commercials. I want to see the race….not some 'local' commercial. If they show a full screen commercial then insert one if you wish.

…..and another cut in with a political ad….ugh! Channel up, channel down and back to the race on half the screen during the commercial
K
You need to complain to TNT, they are the ones who send the Digital Program Insertion/SCTE-35 triggers over their C-Band feed that tells providers when to insert local ads. Select "Cable/Satellite on TV", "Advertising" as the reason for contacting them, and specify that you are watching on DIRECTV Stream.

A couple of years ago the dealership I go to was broken into and apparently a group of thieves drove the cars right out of the showroom like something out of Gone in 60 Secs. They got the keys, opened the big glass bay door and just drove off, but not before also stealing every tool in the service area that wasn't locked up.

Among the vehicles stolen was an F-150 Raptor, Bronco Raptor, Explorer ST, and a slightly used Aviator. A Dark Horse and used Taurus SHO were left untouched, All cars were able to be tracked down via the Ford and Lincoln apps. The fleet of a dozen or so Police Interceptors parked to the left entrance of the showroom were left untouched as well for some reason :)

If it was me doing the thievery, I would have done my homework and pulled the fuse that powers the LTE modem.

Not a Verizon fan, but yesterday I was in an area in Central NY for an event where there was no T-Mobile service, no AT&T service, but I had full bars of n77 on Verizon pushing just under 1 Gbps. I'm assuming that's a backhaul limitation. Later in the day I connected to an mmWave node and hit nearly 3 Gbps.

C-band is being lit up all around me, and within eye sight of the cell site I'm always getting at least 750 Mbps.

All three providers suck in their own ways, but for me in my travels generally speaking its T-Mobile for speed, Verizon for coverage and AT&T is just existing
