I have to admit, I don't own a 16:9 TV. The last set I bought was in 2002 and since there was no HD service or very little, I went with a 4:3 set.

I'm noticing a lot of shows now (SNL, Simpsons, and others) are being broadcast in 16:9 but they aren't letter boxing it. So the result is that the sides are being cut off.

I don't plan on getting HD service anytime soon. If I got a 16:9 TV would I see the sides that are getting cut off on my 4:3 TV? Or would it stretch it out and I still wouldn't see the sides?

I have DishTV Service with a SD programming package.

Thanks,

Mike

If you get a high def box like a 622 or 211 with a tuner, you can watch the unmolested feed. It's hard to say if it's Dish or your affiliate who's chopping the image, but an SD reciever is only getting that one image from the satellite.
