2009 MLB Pennant Races

Two weeks to go before the playoffs start.

The following is the magic numbers for each team:

American League

East
New York*- magic number is 9 over Boston

Central
Detroit- magic number is 7 over Chicago and 11 over Minnesota

West
Los Angeles- magic number is 2 over Seattle and 7 over Texas

Wildcard
Boston- magic number is 1 over Minnesota and Tampa Bay, 2 over Seattle and 7 over Texas

*New York's magic number to clinch a playoff berth is 1.


National League

East
Philadelphia- magic number is 6 over Florida and Atlanta

Central
St. Louis- magic number is 1 over Milwaukee and 4 over Chicago
(Milwaukee will be eliminated and the magic number over Chicago will be 2 with a St. Louis win Sunday night)

West
Los Angeles- magic number is 4 over San Francisco and 8 over Colorado

Wildcard
Colorado- magic number is 3 over Milwaukee, 6 over Chicago, 8 over Florida and Atlanta, and 9 over San Francisco

Remember in the early stages of the season when the yankees were losing often and some wrote them off ..... they have gotten off to a poor start on a regular basic in the last 5 years, but more often than not, they right the ship and make the playoffs.
I have to give them credit for that.

I also did not see the Tiger's making it most of the year in first place ....
I expected the Tiger's and Twins and Wh Sox fighting it out, because that seams to happen often, substitute the Indians for the Sox and you have most years.
But, I really didn't expect the Tiger's to have enough to make it .... of course, they haven't yet and I figured the O would be shaky as it has turned out to be.

I don't see the Tigers going far if they make the playoffs because they are too inconsistent on the Offensive side of things.
