Then get rid of the damn conferences. 11-1 don't mean squat if they didn't win their conference. So you're saying a 1 loss Ohio State is more deserving than undefeated Western Michigan? Western Michigan played 12 games and didn't slip up to an unranked opponent.
The COMMITTEE has made it a point the last 2 seasons to emphasize how important the conference championship and having that 13th game as a data point that influences their decision. If they stick to what they've said the last 2 seasons then 13-0 Alabama and 12-1 Clemson and 12-1 Washington should be the top 3. Then if Penn St wins they should definitely get in as the Big Ten champs and having the head to head over State at 11-2. If Wisconsin wins, I would give them a good chance of jumping State too based on the prior criteria.
They've screwed this up playing favorites and it's going to bite them in the butt this year. They are going to omit a conference champion, (one that possibly beat the team getting in above them) or they're going to omit a 12-1 conference champ to put a 11-2 conference champ in along with a 11-1 non conference champ (that possibly lost to that 11-2 conference champ)
No where does it say that you have to be a Conference Champ to get in the playoff ...
They did that the previous years, yes, but there was no one outside of the Conference winners that had better over all records.
The committee has no real rules, they will do whatever they want to get in who they feel, just like the BSC when they had computers choose, the computers were only giving info from the info they were inputted. They could make them say whatever they wanted.
IF Bama should somehow lose, are they not still a top 4 team ?
Should they be taken out of the playoff and Florida goes in ?
NO ....
Bama would still only have 1 loss ... They would stay in the top 4, just as OSU does.
Conferences are now a joke anyways, with the 14-16 team conferences.
Your right, Conferences shouldn't mean a damn thing anymore.
