Going to Ga Tech's Spring Game tonight.

Was going to UGA's G-Day game tomorrow as well, but due to family obligations, had to cancel those plans.

either way, College football will soon be upon us. :D

Went to the Spring Game. Option still put up lots of yards. But part of me thinks that because our defense still sucks. Paul Johnson needs to find a good defensive coordinator, because that's what kills us every year.

Question for Jimbo: As you’re probably aware, Buckeye Joe Burrow is coming to LSU to hopefully help alleviate our QB woes. What can you tell me about him? He seemed to have trouble earning the starter spot at tOSU.

You will like him.... more than likely he will win the Starting spot in the Fall.

Theres really not a whole lot of game film on him as Urban wanted to play JT Barrett as much as possible.
Burrows is an above avg passer and mobile in the pocket, at least enough to make plays .... no hes not a runner like JT or Braxton Miller was, but hes a better passer than either of them.

I believe that Urban Wants Duane Haskins playing this year and the JT type Tate Martell backing him up getting some experience.
Had Burrows stayed, I would have felt better as we would have 2 qb's that they had confidence in, thats always a good thing ... however, that would also led to Urbam over thinking the situation and one looking to see if the other was coming in if a drive went poorly, much like when Braxton Miller and Cardale Jones were here ... I hope to Not see another season where they play the qb shuffle all year ... that was very hard to take.

I will be watching LSU and pulling for them this year, unless they end up playing OSU in some bowl game ... which could happen if the Bucks don't make the playoffs .... ya know how they like to put games together with intrigue ...

I would have been very happy with Burrows starting in Columbus, but I DO think Haskins is the better QB and he has another year left that Burrows doesn't.

There was some thought of Burrows going to Cincinnati as well, which plays Ohio State next year.

He sounds promising, and other Buckeye fans I’ve asked are giving me the same feedback as you. The LSU coaches sure seem excited to get him too. I hope they don’t waste his talent. It’ll be quite a change for us to see a smart seasoned QB taking snaps. Been a long time!

Thanks for the input.

Things have changed a lot since 1991. Inside the team room at Boone Pickens watching osu/texas game on giant screen as nephew is here for QB camp. We didn’t have all this when I was here.

NCAA allowing players to play in up to 4 games during their redshirt year.

DI football to offer more participation opportunities
DI football to offer more participation opportunities

Starting this season, football players can play in up to four games without losing a season of competition

College athletes competing in Division I football can participate in up to four games in a season without using a season of competition, the Division I Council decided this week at its meeting in Indianapolis.

Division I student-athletes have five years to compete in up to four seasons of competition. The new exception allows football players to preserve a season of competition if, for example, injuries or other factors result in them competing in a small number of games

NCAA banning coaches from preventing students from transferring to certain schools.

They're also making it a Level 2 violation for a coach to interfere with a student at another school.

New transfer rule eliminates permission-to-contact process

DI Council hopes change brings transparency and opens conversation between students and coaches

Beginning in October, Division I student-athletes will have the ability to transfer to a different school and receive a scholarship without asking their current school for permission.

The Division I Council adopted a proposal this week that creates a new “notification-of-transfer” model. This new system allows a student to inform his or her current school of a desire to transfer, then requires that school to enter the student’s name into a national transfer database within two business days. Once the student-athlete’s name is in the database, other coaches are free to contact that individual.

“The membership showed today that it supports this significant change in transfer rules,” said Justin Sell, chair of the Division I Transfer Working Group and athletics director at South Dakota State. “I’m proud of the effort the Transfer Working Group put forth to make this happen for student-athletes, coaches and schools.”

The previous transfer rule, which required student-athletes to get permission from their current school to contact another school before they can receive a scholarship after transfer, was intended to discourage coaches from recruiting student-athletes from other Division I schools. The rule change ends the controversial practice in which some coaches or administrators would prevent students from having contact with specific schools. Conferences, however, still can make rules that are more restrictive than the national rule.

Additionally, the proposal adds tampering with a current student-athlete at another school to the list of potential Level 2 violations, considered a significant breach of conduct.

Backhauls get less and less every year. New ESPN 4.95 thing a month might be a good purchase this fall

Sent from my VS995 using the SatelliteGuys app!
The majority of the Good/Great are on somewhere on the D* channels without addl. packages.
I also use the espn3 app. You would be surprised whats available thru it.
Addl. benefit is you can go back and watch them again .... kinda like having it on a dvr.

That will change this year as many of the small conference games that were on ESPN 3 will now only be available at an additional cost thru the ESPN Plus service on the ESPN app. Most of these conferences (America East, ASun, Big South, Big West, Horizon, Ivy League, MAAC, MAC, MEAC, Missouri Valley, NEC, Southern Conference, Southland, Summit League, Sun Belt, WAC) games/sports will no longer be available via ESPN 3.

Not everyone cares about the big name conference games. I watched and enjoyed a lot of small school games, but that will change this year as I am not going to pay ESPN more for what has been included in the pay tv subscription previously. I already gave up half of the ESPN channels over a year ago when I changed packages. This will only lose them more general viewers.

I've been watching Toledo (MAC) this way for a few years now, hopefully that won't change, but well see.

If all is true in McMurphy’s report, and he has sources to back this up, I don’t see how Urban survives this. Not in the climate of this subject these days.
If the legal system doesn’t get him you can be assured Title IX will.
What does Title IX have to do with anything?

Basically Urban Meyer's wife knew his assistant had hit his wife, it's not known if she had told Meyer. He has admitted that he knew the assistant had a prior allegation where he pushed a woman into a wall. Title IX has nothing to do with that.
Nor did Meyer violate any laws as the whole thing had been investigated by the police, and charges were not pressed.

If Ohio St. determines that it's a violation of Meyer's contract, they can let him go. But Meyer has nothing to fear from Title IX or the law, as he didn't violate either.

Football: Urban Meyer faces questions over Zach Smith at 2018 Big Ten Media Days

The pertinent clause that would allow them to fire him for cause:
New contract provisions could pose problem as Ohio State's Urban Meyer is placed on leave

Is for Title IX violations, something that an incident between an assistant and his then wife does not fall under.

Ohio State can (and probably should) fire him, but they won't be able to do "with cause" and will have to buy out the contract. I suspect that Ohio St. is already in talks with Meyer to make him quietly go away.

Not sure how you can say Title IX would not apply. He and his wife are employed with the university and the clause in the contract states.
“ known violations of Ohio State's Sexual Misconduct Policy (including, but not limited to, sexual harassment, sexual assault, sexual exploitation, intimate violence and stalking) that involve any student, faculty or staff or that is in connection with a university sponsored activity or event.”

She had stated she was stalked by her ex.

It's a domestic situation, of a faculty person and their spouse. That is not a Title IX situation. There has also been earlier police reports, so it's not like it was covered up.

I'm not excusing Meyer, but I don't see it as falling under Title IX, nor being a basis for firing him "with cause".

Why didn't the University run a background check? That would have turned up the earlier police reports.
