Pre-season rankings are out, so I guess we should go ahead and start a 2020-21 thread while we still have a glimmer of hope for a season.

Schools not playing this fall should not be in the list!
Agreed, and I think they'll be taken off once week one is played.

But for now I have no issue with it (as no one has played), except how in the world did Tennessee get ranked? I'm sure Todd will have something to say about that.

From this article, it says that teams that don't play won't be eligible for rankings as of week 1 rankings, for the AP.

All Division I teams were eligible for the preseason AP Top 25, but after the season starts, only teams scheduled to play in the fall are eligible.

Will we have No CFP this year, or 2 CFP's ?
If we have one, it'll probably just be for those playing in the fall.

But seeing how fall championships have already been canceled, I doubt any bowl games will be played, and the the AP and Coaches Polls will just crown a champion, like in the pre-CFP days.

For now though, the CFP people have already delayed the selections and moved the championship game up a week.

The Fall NCAA Championships have been canceled ... but the CFP has not. Obviously by your link.

So, the Big Ten and Pac are just out of the discussion because they will be playing (if they play) later.

So the CFP 4 contestants will be ....
Alabama, Clemson, Georgia and Oklahoma ... just a guess.

Possibly Florida instead of Georgia, but I'd have to see Florida play first (I just don't see them being up there yet with the others.
I think Oklahoma and Florida are a step behind the others .

Doesn't matter. There's going to be a big asterisk in front of the CFP championship winner this year.

For fun, I decided to remove the teams that aren't playing and see what the poll would look like: :D

Looks like there may be Life in the Big Ten after all.
It's a start ... still has to be approved by the Presidents.

Sadly, if they don't start till November ... especially if it's late, that will preclude them from playing in a time frame that would have them eligible for the CFP ... if theres no CFP and no out of conference games, whats the point in having the season, it turns into a Big Ten round robin ... where the incentive for the Sr's and Top stars to play this year ... (same went for if they started in Jan, or Spring).
Why chance injury if you have good chance to be drafted ?

That said, there will be Sr's that will play to improve thier draft potential and undrafted status .

If the Top stars sit out, it WILL give us a chance to see whats coming up the next year .... and theres a push to allow the Early enrolled players (Jan instead of August/Sept) to be able to play this Jan/Spring and not count against thier eligibility ... (not sure if they would be allowed to start in Jan and still play, as that would be coming in the middle of the season if they start in Nov.)

Agreed. I saw them giving start dates of the weekend most teams are playing their final game. At that point, they're out of the equation, and those going pro are calling school quits and preparing for the combine.

If I was a player planning to go pro, there's no way I'd pay into 2021.
