2021 Dish Prices

He told them that I was quoting the interactive "If you own a receiver" panel of the 2021 Pricing webpage and PDF version of the new pricing which says $5 for my owned H3. They said it's an error that they know about and it's not been dealt with . . . Yet! So they will not give me the "advertised" amount.
Well that stinks! I wonder what the rate is actually supposed to be, and when Dish will get off their butts and get the website updated to reflect that. At this point, they should at least make the new rate lower than what they were originally planning to make it, even if that still has to be higher than the advertised $5 rate. So, if Dish had intended to make the second Hopper 3 fee $10, but advertised $5 instead, then split the difference and make it $7.50 going forward. (This is in addition to giving the appropriate credits to bring everyone's rate down to the $5 rate that was actually advertised for the last three months, of course.) This seems like it would be a fair way of doing it, in order to make up for all of the confusion and disappointment that this issue has caused. Then, after at least a year of the new "compromise" rate, Dish can go ahead and raise it to the full $10, if that is the rate they had intended to charge all along. In any event, under no circumstances should that rate remain $15, as they have been actually charging all this time!

If any good comes out of this mess, I certainly hope that it means that Dish will start allowing customers to lease both Hopper 3's going forward. Once Dish actually sees how much they will lose in monthly receiver fees by giving the discount to those of us with purchased equipment, they will very likely rethink their policy of requiring the second Hopper 3 to be purchased. In the meantime, the early adopter power-users keep getting the short end of the stick. They were forced to spend more money up front, and got stuck with higher monthly rates, at least until Dish finally fixes their billing system mess and/or fixes their advertising, as explained above. Dish, make things right for your long-term loyal customers, who often post here and convince others to stay with Dish and/or to upgrade their Dish equipment. These are your ambassadors on this site, and they are not the kind of customer that you want to be ticking off!

Hey crodrules looks like the decision to buy a wireless Joey has been made for me LOL ;)

Shouldn't be any price increase this year IMHO but at least everything else remained status quo
I just got off the phone with 4 different Dish people said locals only (core) not available..only to Covid respnders? or something to that effect,

Yeah, I have Locals Only (Core) and I am an "essential worker." No, wait, I'm unemployed! ;) :oldlaugh
In any event, if this package is not available, then that is yet another thing that Dish's 2021 price chart webpage should be updated to clarify. :(

I was going to lose the leased unit, buy another and save another $10. I wonder if "someone" had an epiphany that everyone would do that they'd lose a bunch. I guess Charlie needs the extra $5 after all.

But am going to inquire when I have to call back when I get the bill and it's still botched. Who knows I might be able to fanagle a discount.

I just received my first full monthly bill with the hopper 3 added and it’s correct. 15 for the first hopper (DVR Fee) 5 dollars for the second hopper and 5 dollars for the Joey. When I activated the box I made the rep confirm the chargers and he told me what my future bill would be and it’s right.

My price lock ends next month, anyone successfully get their bill under $100 with the 250 package. With no regional sports, there is no way I’m paying what is soon to be a $152 bill, plus have to give AT&T $85, or my local cable company $110. Dish is effing insane if they think general entertainment, which can all be found on various $5 to $15 a piece streaming services, is worth $152.

I agree about the breathtaking prices. But how many of those streaming services either (1) have no ads or (2) won't let you skip ads? I pay money to avoid ads, including for my H3 Dish AT250 serice. Even some iVOD programs on my H3 force you to watch ads. I don't watch programming like that on anything.

You already answered why :oldlaugh

I find myself in the exact same boat. Now I have one month to clear everything off the Hopper because we ran the numbers, reviewed what we do and do not watch, and found we can get what we want for 1/4 the price. I'm not even going to try getting a senior resolution specialist involved, I think we're just too far apart. I mean we could even go youtubetv for less than half the price, almost a third. Unless Dish contacts me with a HELL of a lot better "last and best" offer, and I mean like within the next couple hours before the idea has time to set, looks like we may be done.

It depends on your add-ons. I'm at $96 with AT250 + locals, and that's with one H3 and one 4K Joey. But I don't have any premium movie/sports channels or anything else added right now.

Krell is right about the ads though. A lot of these "premium" streaming services still force you to watch ads unless you pay for a more expensive higher tier, whereas with a DVR you can fast-forward through the commercials. And I personally refuse to sign up again with Disney after they fired Gina Carano for having a different political view than their own.

The other thing to keep in mind is both internet speed and usage caps. For someone in a large city, this might not be a problem, but if you live in a rural area... If you don't have a fast enough internet speed, you'll run into lag and buffering issues, especially if multiple TVs or devices in your home are watching videos at the same time. On top of that, many internet providers give you a usage cap like 250 or 500 GB/month. I can tell you for a fact that if you're watching videos in 1080p HD (we're not even talking 4K here), you'll easily burn through hundreds of gigabytes at a time, and you'll get super angry when you see those obscene per-GB overage charges on your bill at the end of the month. If you're only watching an hour of videos a day, it's not a problem, but if you're looking at several hours and multiple different devices streaming, good luck not going over your monthly limit.

That's the one advantage traditional cable and satellite still have over internet streaming services. I could have 4 TVs left on for 6 hours a day, and I don't have to worry about data limits or overage fees or the TVs being slowed down by bandwidth issues. And then with my actual internet, I can use that for everything else, work, gaming, etc.

If you want to compare Apples to Apples, say Dish vs You Tube TV, with YTTV’s Cloud DVR you can FF ( or Rewind and Pause/Resume) for everything you record, no forced ads at all, with VOD you sometimes get ads but that is true with VOD programming from most providers.

Most Data Caps are right around 1GBs a month, I have Charter so not a issue.

As far as Rural areas go, Star Link is coming.

But WOW, what price @ $500+shipping/$100 a month. Still haven't heard if it will have a cap.

Look, I know you wanna make a buck, two if you can, but you gotta make better offers, Dish. There are other options, with way better guide data. The cheaper is just a cherry on top at that point.

I am probably going to put my subscription on pause until September. Start it back up for college football for 4 months then go right back on pause.
Its getting too expensive to just let it run year round.

You might do better to just cancel DISH and go to something like Fubo Elite for those 4 months each year. Elite covers just about everything college sports and some of it in 4K. There are, of course, other choices in the streaming world. You would just have to look at each of them to see if they carry the sports channels you need.

No big rush or deal. I’ll just run AT120 plus from september to january, if I don’t find another service i like.

I get about 30 usable channels OTA in the Detroit area. More than enough for my limited summer viewing.

Im sure you can depending on how many receivers you have. I did my 2 year promo back in October. I only have the 200 package with locals and only one hws, but i pay $83.61 tax and fees included. That gives you about 15.00 wiggle room for 250 package, depending on how many receivers you have.

I am curious on how this turns out too. I have called three months in a row now when I got my bills and got credits, work tickets, etc. I am going to call monthly when I get my bill till I get a solution. We need an answer one way or the other. I am really surprised how each time I called the Loyalty rep was not aware of the issue and didn’t know about the 2021 price increase web page. They seem so sincere and I believe them. But, I am pretty gullible. Will post again next month when I get my bill.
crodrules and SandFarmer, got my DISH bill and it still shows $15 for my owned Hopper 3 instead of $5. Called Loyalty department and she transferred me to a senior resolution supervisor. Supervisor got with her supervisor and then gave me a new ticket number, a onetime credit, and she said she is going to monitor my work ticket and call me back with any development of this issue. Time will tell. Will post back if she calls me back and when I get my bill next month.
