If the 12-team playoff was in place for this year, here's how it would look.

1 - Georgia (SEC Champion)
2 - Michigan (Big Ten Champion)
3 - Clempson (ACC Champion)
4 - Utah (Pac12 Champion)

5 - TCU (Big XII at-large)
6 - Ohio State (Big Ten at-large)
7 - Alabama (SEC at-large)
8 - Tennessee (SEC at-large)
9 - Kansas State (Big 12 Champion)
10 - USC (Pac12 at-large)
11 - Penn St (Big Ten at-large)
12 - Tulane (AAC Champion)

1 (Georgia) vs 8 (Tennessee) / 9 (Kansas State)
2 (Michigan) vs 7 (Alabama) / 10 (USC)
3 (Clempson) vs 6 (Ohio St) / 11 (Penn St)
4 (Utah) vs 5 (TCU) / 12 (Tulane)

*edit* updated per the College Playoff rankings, previous was done by AP rankings. I also forgot that it's the top 4 conference champions that get bye's, not the top 4 teams (corrected now).

4 vs 5/12
Looks like that would be fun to watch play out...now we have to wait till they implement it.

Amazing that we could have a rematch between Michigan and Ohio State.

Second only game between Georgia and Ohio State. As per SEC tradition, Georgia won the single matchup (1993 Citrus Bowl) 21-14 back during the Ray Goof years.

I was surprised to see that as well, having only met a few times.

For whatever reason, Ohio State seldom scheduled OOC games with the SEC. Luckily that changes in 2027 when they have home/home against Alabama and then Georgia.

Enjoyed very much how Nick Saban was out there groveling for a playoff spot. :D

Part of me thinks Tennessee rates a ranking of 4th, and for the life of me I have no idea why they are ranked behind Alabama. Tennessee lost to the #1 ranked team, and then fell, quite a bit to a giant killer. But they beat Alabama and LSU. Repeat that again, Tennessee beat Alabama.

Ohio State beat Penn State and Notre Dame. If OSU played Georgia, they'd be a 2 loss team.

These extra two teams are simply an answer to a question no one asked. We know that Michigan and Georgia are undefeated, Georgia having played a massively harder schedule,

Notice how, even with just four teams, no one mentioned any of the bowl games. As the playoffs expand from 12 to 16 to 24, the bowls will die out, and we will all see the pleasure of seeing three and four loss teams play in the middle of midwestern winters, and in the giant shadow of the NFL, which is not going to stop playing on Saturdays in January just because college football wants to extend its season for more than a month.

Getting curb stomped by South Carolina made them fall to below Alabama.

Come December 31 they will be. ;)

People stopped caring about most of the bowl games long before the 4-team playoff.

Blame ESPN for creating most of them and turning bowl games into participation trophies. They've gone from 15 bowl games in the 80's to over 40.

Not lucky for Ohio State. :D

But it is nice to see them actually schedule SEC schools, something Penn St. and other Big Ten schools have been doing for a while.

Buckeye will do fine.
Have they been scheduled yet ?
Where are they on the schedule ?
Heres hoping they are around game 3 so you get a better idea of how each team is that year ...
1st few weeks of a season is a coin flip as to if you'll see the real team.

Especially in that artic weather I keep hearing about.

Not sure how Alabama and Georgia will function having to play in 60's.

;)
Don't worry, it won't be scheduled for the end of the season.

Fwiw, High School played this past weekend and the temp was 27*, before any wind chill .
So, yes, it does get cold for games up here.

But I'm not wasting another 3-4 pages of you debating the weather ...

I think Hooker being hurt has Alot to do with that ...

And OSU Didn't play them, wasn't on thier schedule.

Alabama Has 2 losses and very nearly has 4 losses with 2 wins on the last play of the game.

Have they been scheduled yet ?
Georgia and Ohio State scheduled the games back in 2019, several years after Ohio State backed out of the 2020/21 series that had been previously scheduled. Alabama and Ohio State scheduled their games in 2020.
Where are they on the schedule ?
Sept 18, 2027 - Alabama at Ohio State
Sept 8, 2028 - Ohio State at Alabama
Sept 14, 2030 - Ohio State at Georgia
August 30, 2031 - Georgia at Ohio State

Making excuses already? A good coach should be able to have his players ready on day 1.
