Have any of you had any luck using "self assembled" external hard drives on the 211k?

I just purchased a 211k & want to use the EHD feature. It seems like I read somewhere that you should use "ready made" external HDDs. If it would work, I would prefer to build my own. I already have 3 other external HDDs that I assembled & have had very good luck with them. I like choosing aluminum enclosures with a fan (or fans).

Here's what I was hoping to use...

Newegg.com - Rosewill RX355-X2 BK ABS Cover and internal metal shielding 3.5" Black USB2.0 & eSATA External Enclosure

Newegg.com - Western Digital Caviar Green WD10EARS 1TB 5400 RPM 64MB Cache SATA 3.0Gb/s 3.5" Internal Hard Drive -Bare Drive

Would the 211k be compatible with this setup? I'd sure hate to spring for it if it didn't work. I don't need any more EHDs for other purposes, lol.

Cheers

I have used 3 or 4 different types of "self assembled" EHD's and the only one that has not worked was a USB with a combo head that did SATA, laptop IDE and standard IDE drives. The SATA plug must have been bad, because the other two worked, but SATA did not.

All my 211's (3 of them) use either SATA/usb adapters or SATA/USB docks, none are on the more expensive pre-assembled units.

AFAIK the only stipulations on EHD's for the 211 are: (1) 1TB or less; (2) must be self powered; (3) only one spindle allowed.

These stipulations apply to both "self made" and pre-assembled units.

I remember hearing on a Tech. Chat that they were raising the 1TB ceiling. Anybody tried >1TB?
