2500A and SG2100

OK...

My zip is 91361, so my Lat is 34 06 and my Long is 118 49.
I set the rotor/dish (76cm) to A 56 and B 24.5. Then I set
the dish to 166 (true south).

The nearest sat to 118 (non C band) is Dish and DirectTV,
while I understand these are scrambled, I should be able
to get a signal (?).

On the 2500A, for Echo 7/Ku I have set up the following
on the Antenna Setup.
LNB Standard
LMB Local Fq 11250
22Mhz Off
DiSEqC Off
Skew -45
TP (1)12223 V 20.000
Pos Set 1.2
FTA+Scramble

Now. Under the 1.2 option I have #27...

But I get no Quality, but lots of Level.

And I dont see the dish move, should I?

Need to use a DBS LNB for that satellite.

If you are using a DBS/DirecTV.Dishnetwork LNB then you would use 11250 as the L.O. but if you are still using a standard KU LNB (10750 L.O.) it will throw off your frequency. If you are SURE you are on the satellite try a blind scan, even with a KU LNBF you should still get signal quality and maybe even a few ITC channels depending where you are in the country, its worth a try.

After you enter your Lat. And Long. and set up 119w in the antenna setup screen the dish/motor will move a fraction, then you have to peak the dish onto the satellite watching for quality, if you are sure the pole is plumb and level and you still cant get quality move the elevation on the dish only a few degrees at a time up and or down until you peak in the satellite.
 
So this is what I did.

Left all the 2500A settings as above. Then replaced
my ASC321 LNB with an old (err not sure Dish or
DirecTV) LNB. Manually adjusted the dish for maximum
signal level, and did a scan. Now I have what is listed
in the "What can you get with an 18" dish" thread.

My question is: Is there some way you "tell" the 2500A
this is your reference point? Or what is my next step?

OK, thanks. I set the Echostar 7 at 119 at reference point.
While I still have the other LNB on my dish, I tried a couple
of other Echostar 6/8 at 110 and 1/2 at 148. I just went
to the USALS and said Move. Was that correct? But I get
no signal level at either one.

Should I have setup the dish to my True South (166.5 deg),
set the Elev angle on the rotor (A) to my 56 (34 deg) and
then set the declination angle (B) to 24.5.
Thats the standard installation.

Then, via USALS, move the dish to 119, THEN adjust for max
signal.... I'm thinking what I did above was wrong, and
I should have done it like this?!
 
was the LO frequency 11250?

As for the other question, I honestly don't know. I lucked out and IA6 is my exact true south

Maybe PSB can help you with that :)
 
I use the same true south satellite! (IA-6) and a professional positive satellite identification meter, so I may not be the best person to ask as I have it easy in both respects.... : ) Make sure the pole is exactly plumb and level, set the motor elevation and NEVER touch it again. Set the dish elevation/declination, the elevation can be moved up or down as needed and the motor-dish and all are rotated on the pole/mast to catch then peak the signal, only then USALS-motor over to the next satellite.

I think if you are going to be setting up a motorized KU satellite system, sure you can use a DBS bird and LNB to get you in the ball park but I would then switch back over to the KU LNBF and your next closest KU satellite to your true south as you will never truly be on the ark until you home in on it with the much weaker KU satellites. I guess its a bit like C-band owners many people set them up and they work great for C-band but after adding a KU feedhorn/system they soon notice the system that has been working perfectly for C-band satellites needs more tweaking to more closely follow the ark.
