3rd Party Receiver Support?

I have heard discussion of DirecTV pulling support for third party receiver manufacturers but can't find any definitive statements. It seems that some companies, like LG, have quit offering a receiver. Any links, opinions, debunks, or other information would be greatly appreciated.
