I did the wi-fi trick with a D-1000 dish with a couple of old DP lnb's still attached. Place a usb Wi-Fi adapter between the two lnb's and run the usb cable to your laptop, works great.
I tested the idea by taking the dish out in the back yard to where my wi-fi signal was down to one bar on my smart phone, then placed the smart phone in the focal point of the reflector while the dish was pointed at my wi-fi router over 100 ft away - five bars!

Very interesting ideas. I've seen BUDS turned upside down with column-like supports to use as a pergolas.
