4K Events Discussion Thread

I am not sure about a Roku enabled TV but with my Roku Ultra it was necessary to select the 4K HDR feed to get that resolution. I have a Vizio monitor and it allows me to see the resolution.

A note on tonight’s Atlanta-Los Angeles baseball game. If you are equipped properly you can enjoy the game in 4K HDR using a 4K Roku or 4K FireStick by tuning to the FoxSports app using your Dish credential. While the game is available on Dish channel 540-01, it is not in HDR. That makes a very noticeable difference.

I just tried this through 4k firestick
And it says my tv subscription allows limited access and the content selected is unavailable
Is there a certain package needed to qualify?
I have American 200

I believe you need at least Top 250 or above to receive the game in 4K HDR.

It kind of makes you wonder why Dish bothers with the 4K channel 540-01 at all. Maybe they should just build a 4K Roku or 4K FireStick into the Hopper 5.

I still have the stub from the April 12, 1966 first Braves game in Atlanta that my father took me to. We watched starting pitcher Tony Cloninger go all 13 innings (you read that right, 13 innings!) to lose.

So what do I do in the silly Covid season?

Forget they are playing! Oh well....they beat the dreaded Dogers so...all's well.

MLB, Atlanta Braves vs Los Angeles Dodgers, Tuesday 10-12, 3PM PDT, Channel 540-01.
Typo alert! Obviously, that should be Tuesday 10-13. Also, I noticed that you just fixed the typo in yesterday's post, to remove the "stuck out tongue" that had been appearing in the middle of 5: PM.

Dish has the ability to broadcast it in 4K HDR, they just...choose not to, for some reason.

The reason is simple. Historically DISH presented the Olympic Games in 4K HDR. That caused issues with those who had early 4K televisions that didn’t support HDR. The 4K Joey also is not able to support HDR. So, those folks were not able to watch the games in anything other than HD. They were very vocal with their displeasure of this issue. Now DISH is catering to those early adopters of 4K TVs without HDR capability as well as 4K Joey users. There is your answer.

Yeah, and the Olympic Games were how long ago now? There has been plenty of time since then to develop and release a new 4K HDR Joey. So, this still does not explain why Dish has not bothered to do so. If none of the Hoppers are capable of supporting a 4K HDR Joey, then perhaps it is also time for a new Hopper model that can do so.

And then there are cheap streaming devices that are capable of both 4K and HDR, like the 4K FireStick which also allows a DishAnywhere stream that can allow you to forget the need for an extra $7 a month Joey. People will figure out a way when the need arises. BTW, you can buy that FireStick today for $30!

They don’t have the bandwidth for an HDR feed and non-HDR feed? Not like they have all the HBOs or most RSNs at this point.

Not with my Hopper Duo. (And before anyone says anything, yes the Hopper Duo is capable of supporting a 4K Joey.) So, saving that $7 per month for a Joey would cost an extra $5 per month for the DVR fee on a Hopper that is capable of doing that Dish Anywhere streaming. A net savings of only $2 per month, which would take 15 months to offset the cost of that $30 FireStick.

While you continue to bemoan that $2 a month for 15 months the rest can spend it up front and enjoy 4K HDR that is not available on DISH...
