4K Events Discussion Thread

Looking at the Dish Guide I see that they are now designating the four 540 channels. 01 is Fox Sports 4K, 02 is FS1 4K, 03 is ESPN 4K, and 05 is B1G Network 4K. I think we can look forward to more 4K sports in our near future.

Looks like Dish has also labeled the 4 - 4K channels.
540-1 - FOX 4K
540-2 - FS1 4K
540-3 - ESPN 4K
540-5 - BIG10 4K
I mentioned that a month ago...

Comparing the Indiana Miami championship game on 540-03 (4K HDR) with the game on channel 140 (1080i).

1) The 4K broadcast is noticeably much clearer. With so much detail they may be using 4K cameras.
2) The 4K HDR picture is darker but the colors appear to be correct.
3) The 4K broadcast has no commercials and no half time report. They show a view of the stadium during commercials and half time.
4) The 4K broadcast is ~10 seconds ahead of the 1080i channel 140 broadcast.
5) Both the 4K broadcast and the 1080i broadcast are Dolby Digital audio.

Of course Indiana is dominating the game.
Once again Dish is doing a great job.

ESPN uses 4K cameras, especially for major events like the College Football Playoff (CFP) National Championship, deploying various Sony 4K-capable cameras (like the HDC-4800, HDC-P50, and F5500) for different angles.

Developed an issue with my Hopper3 on 4K Sports. I get sound, but no picture.
Replaced the HDMI cable, and rebooted the Hopper. Still black screen, with sound.
4K HDR works fine on the Joey4s. Any other ideas??

New 4K channel listed in the guide: 540-06 4KNBC.
This is interesting because other than the Olympics, NBC generally doesn't do 4K events. SNF is 1080P HDR with the Peacock Premium plan which is $12.99 per month..
Any idea what is planned for this channel?

I think I found the answer: NBC does some College Football in 4K,
Sat 8/29 San Jose ST vs USC 2PM CDT.
Sat 9/5 Western Michigan vs Michigan 6:30 PM CDT.
These are not in my current Dish Guide yet, but I think the addition of the channel is for NCAA football. IIRC, they did the Notre Dame game(s) in 4K last year too.

They also stream some Soccer events from the UK in 4K

They are now on 148-01 thru 148-08
This is interesting - I'm prob a week away from getting rid of dish and going to YTtv but if they FINALLY give me 4K HDR football games (all of them that I watch IE: most on ESPN's) then I may negotiate a little and stay... I'm a 27 year customer but the price has gone nuts for very little updates on the programming.
It's 2026 and we are just still on basic rebroadcasted HD...

Not sure why the change in channel numbers. Last year they had all of the FOX Big Noon Saturday College Football games in 4K HDR, plus IIRC, Notre Dame on NBC.
They are not showing this weekends SJSU vs USC in the Guide yet, but I'd think they will carry it.

I'm sure the thinking is that all the rest of the sports channels are in the 140s. Something in my way gone past memory seems to remember that 148 was a temporary 4K channel when there was but one of those channels. I think we will see the USC game in the guide sometime today.

Dish is still not showing this weekends SJSU vs USC game today on NBC4K.
YTTV has it. Seems odd that they added the channel, and the Soccer from the UK tomorrow, but not the College Football today?

For the following week, they added a Friday game, and the Big New Saturday game on FOX.

I am going to guess that they have a contract that includes EPL but not NCAA, at least to this point. We do have NCAA with Fox on both the Network and FS1.

That makes sense. IIRC, Dish did carry the Notre Dame game(s) in 4K last year.
This weekends NCAA games are listed as week ZERO. ??? Next week as week 1.
Perhaps it could also be that this week is not in their contract?

Tried to watch the Fresno USC game on 148-01. Picture but no sound.
Changed the channel, tried to tune again, dish when dark, no response to remote.
Rebooted.
Went back to 148-01, no sound again.
I try a full power down tomorrow, but not now because the wife is trying to watch her shows in another room.
4K works fine with sound on YTTV though.

Dish vs Streaming Apps?

Its crazy how the ViP922 is so rare for no reason.
