I got a call from the Dish promotion team yesterday and the offer is that if I can pay upfront for the whole year I get 50% off. Is anyone aware of this and most importantly is there any catch to this? As usual the guy who is offering the promotion is not able to explain the details.

Can you please send me your account number so I can review the notes on the account? This is something I haven't heard of.

Sounds like a scam, but if I legitimately could get 50% off for paying my bill (any bill) a year in advance, I'd take it.

DIRT team,(Zach) let us know about this. Way too good to be true -more to the story?

That offer seems very odd. I have a lot of customers that would love to do that. As of now I don't think you can pay for the whole year up front.

I know it is too good to be true so I was very skeptic to the extent that my wife complained that I am being too harsh.

But the part that troubles me is this:

1. I tried to call back and the number actually goes to dish customer support.
2. I just upgraded my package (on Friday to be exact) to AT250 to avail the promotion and watch OLYMPIC channels and this guys is able to tell exactly how much I am paying today.
3. I had a similar call a month back and at that time they told me that they are offering a shared package where I will have to pay only 50% of the cost and some other customer will pay another 50%.

I know there are various scams going on to get your bank account information, but nothing that I am aware of with credit card. The bigger issue is whether there is any fraud with contractors that Dish employ. I am one of those that signed up for auto pay and I am now worried about who else has my credit card and payment information outside of Dish.

I'm not too certain who wouldn't jump on that bus if you could get 50% off for a year's service, other than people that didn't quite have that sort of cash up front. Definitely falls under "Too good to be true".

If this one was true I would be calling in now with my credit card. :)

Unfortunately I do not believe its true.
Would probably upgrade to AEP, at just under $55 a month.

Now that I think of it, this thread is becoming a terrible tease. No way in heck would this deal ever exist!

I for one would love to see dish do this as it would be a great way for us to offer customers who are past the 2 year mark a great deal when they call in trying to get the world for nothing.

In reality i cant see how they could turn a profit on this promo unless the dish ship is sinking fast and they are trying to plug the hole quick.

And then Haller can harp about how Ergen ran his company into bankruptcy....

Coincidently I spoke with an Accounts Specialist last week and they claim no such prepay options exist anymore. This was also confirmed by a DIRT member here. Sounds like phising! OR...maybe it's really 50% off a ROKU!

Dish discontinued offering annual prepaid last year. You have to be grandfathered in to still get it.

This sounds like they take your information and CC number to "prepay" and you end up with a nice stolen credit card and no Dish service...

Caller ID spoofing at its best unfortunately. :(
Yeah, it's a good policy never to give out account or banking info over the phone on a call that wasn't initated by you. In this case, if I really was interested in pursuing this, I wouldn't give the caller any information but ask for a return number to call back in to complete the transaction. Then you can tell if the caller is fishy or not.
