622 Atlanta signal strength concern

I plan on upgrading my 942 for a 622 on April 1st. However, I'm reading instances of 80% or less signal strength for 129. I live in a hole and cannot receive ota hd. My 110 and 119 are 100+. Would it be best to have 129 on a dish 500 rather than 110, 119 and 129 sharing the 1000 they would install. Currently I have a 500 on 61.5 and a 500 on 110/119. The tech advisior cound not guarantee me a 3/500 set up. Personally I think they should do whatever I want. I'm a subscriber since 97 with a 120+ monthly bill. I received the 942 lease well before they were available to current customers.

I live in N.W. Ga, I have a dish 1000 with sig. strength of well over 100 on both 110 and 119 but can't hit 129 at all, nothing. I have repeaked the dish and brought sig. up on both the others but nothing on 129. I have tried to get it with a 500 but still no sig. It's just too damn low in the sky to hit from my peice of paradise. I never in my wildest dreams thought they would put the atlanta HD locals on 129. Had I had any hint that this was the plan I would never went to the new receiver. All the trouble and money for one lousey chan. ESPN II just ain't worth it.....................

I hear ya about the low angle. I resorted to using a D500 with an I adapter and my dish almost points at my neighbors window. I was able to get a reading of 95 but that sat is always the first to go out in the rain. Maybe I should use my 1.2 m CM dish.;)

I live in Atlanta and I plan to swing my 61.5 dish around to 129 this afternoon. Because of the low angle and tall trees my prospects appear to be dim. If it does not work I will continue to use my OTA antenna for Atlanta HD locals and scrap any plans to upgrade. Why E* did not put the Atlanta locals on 61.5 is a mystery to me. They obviously have no idea just how dense and tall trees are in this area.

Unless you are getting internationals, you probably will no longer need 61.5. The Atlanta locals on 61.5 are moving to 110 (sometime in April I believe it is mentioned), and once you get Atlanta 46 you will not need CBS HD from NY if you currently get it.

My Dish1000 registers 100+ for 110 and 119, while 129 is right around 75. When the major storms hit earlier this week (we were hit pretty hard), I did lose 129. That was the first time it has happened since my Dish 1000 install (about 3 or 4 weeks now). Of course we've only had a few storms roll in during that time. My strength on 129 during the outage was dropping to a low of 33 and it seemed around 55 the channels would come back but they would pixelate. Strength of 110 and 119 sats during the same storm were in the 70's.

I had my Dish1000 mounted on my chimney, near the tallest peak of our house. It is almost as tall as the tallest trees on my property, so it clears them pretty easily. But I live where the ground slopes downward behind my house, which points in the same direction that the satellites are on the horizon.

A Dish500 would probably work best for you, as I've seen someone from the Atlanta DMA post a strength of 100 from 129 using a Dish500. Good luck!

I wanted Dish to come out and swing my 61.5 to 129 and see what signal strength they could get. Tech support says no can do without a service charge. I thought it would save everbody a lot of trouble. I'm not to keen on a $300 charge sitting on my credit card for 4 to 8 weeks waiting for a 622 install that will have to be sent back because of poor signal strength. This whole ordeal is starting to become tiresome. I've been playing "Dish" games so long I remember being all giddy about getting the Atlanta locals in SD! Maybe i'll just add Adelphia HD locals via my cable card and hold on to the 942 for a year or more.

guys what do you think my chances are of swinging my 61.5 to 129. Right now my 110/119 dish is at the peak of my roof to clear the tree line in my yard but the 61.5 is much lower all the way at the bottom of the roof. I assume that I would have to point the 61.5 in the same general direction as the 110/119, correct?

We had light to medium rain in Atlanta on Monday night (3/20), but nothing heavy. Did anyone lose the 129 signal on Monday night in Atlanta? Please provide dish setup information (e.g. D1000 only, 2 D500s, etc.) and signal strength.

I think any one that's having trouble with the atlanta HD locals or not getting them at all like myself should call, email or smoke signal dish and complain. Let um know how you feel. I did and made sure my complaint was noted. They're not going to do any thing about it but let um know you don't like it any way. They might can screw me over but they can't make me like it.................

I don't have my 622 yet, but I do have a 522 and 2 other "regular" single tuner receivers. How do you find out what your satellite strength is? My 522 has only maybe gone out once or twice during a really bad storm. I've been reading about peoples 622's going out in Atlanta whenever a storm hits. I'd like to have the same signal strength as my 522, but I doubt that's possible.

Maybe this picture will help. Notice the 110/119 sat is high up on the roof to clear the tree line. so will I have to swing the 61.5 in the same general direction of 110/119 if so do you guys think it would be better to get a dish 1000 instead of swinging the 61.5?

I assume you want to receive the 129 satellite. If that is the case I would swing the 61.5 dish to 129. Look below to get an idea of the direction and elevation needed to receive the various satellites.

From the Atlanta area

61.5 - Azimuth *147.5, Elevation 43.6
129 - Azimuth *245.2, Elevation 28.6
110 - Azimuth *225.4, Elevation 42.1
119 - Azimuth *235.7, Elevation 36.1

Many have reported better signal strength from129 with a dish 500 than with a dish 1000.

On your remote control press Menu, 6, 1, 1. Select the satellite and transponder you want to check. The signal strength shoud be approximately the same for all receivers. You did not mention if you have a second dish pointed at 61.5. The majority of the HD programming is simulcast on 61.5 and 129. The Atlanta HD locals are only on 129.

I think the 522 requires two satellite feeds to be connected. If it does, and you are adding the 622 and not removing any of your existing receivers, you will need a new switch for the 622. I believe under the current promotions when you order the 622 from Dish Network all necessary switches and antennas are included at no additional cost.

Why do you want to hit 129 if you already have 61.5? I get all my 129 hd channels off of 61.5.

The Atlanta HD locals are on 129. I also receive all of the Atlanta HD locals OTA except WXIA (NBC) which I have multipath problems with. Getting the Atlanta satellite HD locals gives much more flexibility in recording several programs at once.

The signal strenghts shown on the 622 are:
61.5: 90 to 115 (Dish 300 DPP44)
110: 88 to 97 (Dish 1000 DPP44)
119: 108 to 115 (Dish 1000 DPP44)
129: 70 to 88 (87 on TP 10) (Dish 1000 DPP44)

Because of the low elevation angle for 129, interference from trees can be a problem.

BCH, I appreciate the help! It looks like my 500 has a signal strength of 115. It was going back between 114 and 115. I also saw that it's pointed towards 119? Anyway, I hope the 622 has as much signal strength as my 522.
