I got the 622 installed back in February. I'm using it in dual mode with the 2nd tuner being dedicated to my 16 year old son's room. The issue we have is that the 2nd remote burns through batteries very quickly. It didn't do this at first. The first set of batteries (the ones that came with the remote) lasted him 3 months and the second and third set of batteries have lasted 1 month. Is this indicative of a problem with the remote? Or, is this normal?

I forgot to mention that we still haven't had to change the batteries on Remote 1 yet. I know it's an IR remote and remote 2 is a UHF remote, but really, should the difference between them on battery use be that much?

Call Dish tech support and tell them. There was/is apparently a known issue that causes this. They should send you a replacement.

Being a UHF remote the TV2 remote will definitely go through batteries quicker than the TV1 remote.

That being said, 1 month is definitely not normal. I agree with hall that you should call and get it replaced.

I called Dish tech support to report the problem and the guy agreed that it was malfunctioning. He told me to hold on a minute and when he came back he said he could send me a new remote for $49.99. I stated I understood that Dish owned the equipment and since it was only 5 months old and it was leased, I felt Dish should replace it without charge. He said there was no maintenance agreement on the account, but if I wanted to sign up for a maintenance agreement right then, he could send the remote free of charge. I said no way, I am being nickeled and dimed by Dish enough. I then asked if the receiver wasn't under warranty. He responded that yes the "receiver" is under warranty, but the remote is not part of the receiver. I said "the hell it isn't. You can't fully operate the receiver without the remote." I told the guy that $50 would buy a heck of a lot of batteries and I didn't need the cost or hassle. When I got off the phone, I immediately sent an e-mail to the ceo@echostar.com address complaining about this. I have been a Dish customer since 1999 and currently my monthly bill is $134.00 and some change. I threatened to reduce my level of programming in order to save the money to pay for the remote. At first I didn't hear back from them for a couple of days and I was just about to pick up the phone to make the call to follow through with my threat and thought I better check my e-mail one more time before calling. Sure enough there was an e-mail there telling me the remote was on its way to me. I got it yesterday.

I write this as a warning to anyone that is on the lease deal for a 622. I made the mistake of thinking that since it was a lease that things were covered for any problems or faults. It's not according to Dish. Unfortunately I had to threaten and use my customer history to get something. I don't like doing that and what Dish is doing is not right in my eyes. As far as I was concerned the equipment is five months old, it belongs to Dish, it is under warranty, and it has failed due to a flaw or manufacture fault. It should be replaced free of charge.

You must have gotten someone who didn't know what was gon on. I had a problem with my remote (for TV 1) and i got sent a replacement remote without even being asked to replace batteries (just to make sure it wawsn't bad batteries, which it might have been oops). the replacement i got ... a UHF Pro remote with all the tabs ... how awesome is that. now i have 2 UHF pro remotes for TV1 and TV2.

LOL @ the password thing. When I was 11 I had unrestricted internet access, of course I was a bit surprised my parents allowed that. However, they did, as when I asked my dad about it, he said I knew better. Oh well, something must be wrong with me because I'm not a porn addict or anything (I don't even like that kinda stuff)...............

Though I did end up blocking most of the crap that dish tries to solicit you with by default. Channel flipping through uh.. 200 PPV/premium/sports channels really screws up the whole thing about channel flipping!

I just wanted to bump this message and ask if anyone ever solved this problem with the second remote. I too have had this happen and called dish network for a replacement. After paying shipping my new remote arrived, I placed new energizer batteries in it and they lasted 3 weeks. I am ready to just cancel the whole package and go back to directv.

That would be silly. Just get some rechargeable s.

It is a problem with a short in the remote. It is a known issue and is not being caused by a button being pressed. Not sure if they are still doing it, but about 6-9 months ago, Dish was sending out new remotes free of charge for those that had issues (I called told them about the issue I was having and they replaced no problems). There was a member here, Tomahawk or something like that who worked for Dish (before they canned him for his posts here) and he advised everyone about the offer. I would call and see if it is still offered. If not, then buy one new off Ebay for like $20. $50 for a new remote would certainly cause a string of profanity to fly from my mouth at the CSR. For that price, you could ship in a few extra bucks and get yourself a Harmony at Wal-mart!!

As for the post about the Logitech Harmony remote, what model do you have? I have the 520 and think I have replaced the batteries maybe twice in 2 years, and I use the remote everyday. I have actually wondered why mine doesn't use batteries faster than it does, but certainly not complaining about it.

I have always had a problem with the silver remotes burning though batteries. Very inefficient. I finally bought Sanyo Eneloops, which have now paid for themselves a couple times.
