Welcome to SatelliteGuys... You can hook up a Replay or a Tivo Standalone to your 811 via the S-Video for video and Composite audio outs... it will be downrezzed HD, but is very watchable...
You can, but that is not a DVR. That is a DVD Recorder. But essentially pretty similar.
And as dfergie stated, it will down-convert any HD content.
