Hello,
I am new to FTA but very interested in its reception. I am thinking of purchasing a BEC 2000+ receiver, an Invacom SNH013 0.3 LBNF, and a Wineguard DS2076 76cm dish.
Would anyone be able to tell me if this would be an appropriate (affordable) system to buy for someone living in central Pennsylvania (Zip code 16669)? This is being sold as a system-I really don't have enough knowledge to be able to mix and match my own components at this point.) Would I need any other hardware (excluding the obvious cables and connectors)?
Also would a signal meter be helpful? Does a signal meter only work with analog signals?

Another aside question-Does it appear that FTA signals will be around in the coming years in the numbers that they can apparently be found today?

I hope that I've placed this question in the proper forum. Please forgive me its not.
Thanks in advance for any help or suggestions. I greatly appreciate it.

Hello and WELCOME to the SatelliteGuys.US FTA forum!

I am of the feeling that there will be MORE FTA satellite channels in the coming months and years and hopefully we will catch up with Europe where there are what seems like thousands of channels FTA.

A satellite meter may help but watching your signal Quality meter on the TV is 100times better, its best to have a small TV beside the dish when doing the install/pointing the dish.

Sounds like a nice system but the BEC does not have blind scan or USALS, these are nice features to have for a new hobbyist.

Here are all the angles to the satellites from your area....

Thank you for the information PSB.
The receiver has autosearch. I guess that must not be the same as a blind search?
If this would require a lot of explanition I'll just try to research a little more.
Do you think that the dish is large enough for my latitude?
Thanks!

Would be better with at least a 1m dish, but the Winegard is a fantastic dish for its size.

Auto scan scans for transponders that have already been entered into the receiver, of course you can also manually enter additional transponders.

With a Blind scan it will scan the whole satellite for you and FIND any transponders that are FTA automatically!

USALS is another great feature it calculates where the satellites will be in the your arc from a reference or zero point (your true south or zenith)

Thanks for the information. It looks like usals would really help. I'm glad that you helped me out with the blind search. I didn't know what I was looking for obviously.
