I have a Dell Dimension 4400. I know it is old but.....I would like to add a dvd burner. What do I need to look for to make sure the burner is compatible with my system?

Personally if I only had one computer then I would go with internal. They are all pretty much compatible as long as you get the right connection inside the case. If you get an IDE one, that will work no matter what. If you get a SATA one, then you have to make sure your computer has those.

Internal dvd burners will be faster than an external for the most part.

I just put one in my son's computer (Dell 4100) and have had no problems whatsoever. Like Ramy stated, IDE should be no problem. At least with my son's computer, I had no problems with a SATA Sony.

I will need a sata as well if I go internal. What model did you get?
