First I would like to say this is a great forum with a lot of good info. I have been reading here a while and finally ordered an FTA setup which includes a Coolsat 4000 Pro, 33” Fortec dish with universal Ku Lnbf and a Moteck SG2100 motor which should be here by the weekend. I’ve been reading on setting everything up and just wanted to make sure I’m on the right track.

Zip Code 31706

Latitude = 31.550
Longitude = 84.090
Declination = 3° 52' W

So I guess I would use AMC 9 @ 83.0 west as my true south sat. So using this calculator sadoun/Sat/Installation/Satellite-Heading-Calculator.
I get
Elevation = 53.3
Azimuth = 181.7 + 3 for declination
Skew = 1.5

Someone please tell me if I’m on the right track here. The only thing I’m unsure of is the Elevation. If the dish is set to 53.3 then what should the elevation of the motor be set at. Will there be some instructions with the motor to determine the elevation settings?

Thanks for any help!

The motor elevation should be set at 59 deg

The dish elevation (when on motor) = 25 deg.

All the bumf will be in the manual : )

On the "latitude" scale (left side of the motor bracket) the setting will be 31.5, your latitude. The dish elevation will be 30 minus the declination (which is about 5). Check with the table that will be supplied with your SG-2100 manual. I live at 30 degrees latitude, and my declination is 5, so you'd probably be right about at 30-5 (or 25) for your dish elevation.

Thanks. I have recieved all the equipment and the moter install guide with the chart is pretty straight foward. Now I have another question since my long is 84 I was going to us amc9 at 83 west as my true south sat. Looking at the sat list on the coolsat 4000 pro there is not a listing for amc9. There is a listing for nimiq2 at 82 west. Do I need to try and hit nimiq2 with an old directv lnb and then swap back to my ku lnb or can amc9 be added to the sat list on the coolsat ?

Thanks
Mcann

AMC9 can be added. I think 11775 H 4232 might be an active TP

I know there is another one that is active
12020 V 30000 but the channels are scrambled

Ice, brother your talking over my head. I'm a major newbie! I see on Lyngsat on amc9 The Healthy Living Channel that says 12000 H tp15 that looks like it's a fta channel although I don't have a clue about 12000H and tp15. On the coolsat the only place I see that you can add a sat is in the motor setup and below the sat name it says frequency. Can you spoon feed me a little on adding a sat on a coolsat pro.

Thanks Again

sorry

to add a satellite & transponder, go to "installation" then "dish setting"
This is where you can add a satellite. Once you get AMC9 added, save it and back yourself out.

Then go back in under instalation and manual scan. This is where you can add the transponder

Enter it as the following
frequency 12020
polarity V
symbol rate 30000

That will allow you to aim the dish/motor at the satellite

Thanks Iceberg, I did add AMC9 and I went into manual scan entered the following.

frequency 12020
polarity V
symbol rate 30000

I tried for several hours to find AMC9 with the motor and dish. I finally took the motor off and just mounted the dish on the pole by itself to check out the reciever, coax & lnb. I found AMC9, G10, telestar5 and a couple of more sats by tuning to an active transponder on each sat and manually moving the dish so there's not a problem with the equipment. Let me explain how I tried to set the motor up. Someone tell me if I'm doing something wrong please. Again my lat is 31.6 & my long is 84.1. I set the motor elevation to 31 and by using the chart I set the dish elevation at 25. Set the motor to 0, go ino the motor setup and set satalite to amc9, select USALS. Sat location 83W and enter my latitude & longitude and exit out. Coolsat saves the info and pans the dish about 20 degrees east. I go into manual scan and enter the known active transponderand try to move the dish and motor together to find a good signal quality. I cannot get the quality any better than 20% and the bars never turn green, they stay red.For the motor to move 20degress sounds like a lot to me when AMC9 is only one degree from my longitude. Please what am I doing wrong here? I have checked everything I can think of. My pole is plumb also.

Also...as far as I know..
with a motorized setup you don't need the lnb skew, it stays at 0.
Tell me if i'm wrong on this one guys =)

Correctamundo, "H-H needs no skoo!"

Or, "skew," as some call it...

Yes, 20 degrees of movement is wrong. Something's off...

What you could do is this: Power the motor by hooking it up to the receiver. Manually (using the button on the motor) move the motor back to the '0' position. With it exactly at '0', use a paperclip to reset the motor (its a small hole near the LED). When you reset the motor, make sure its powered AND at the '0' position. Next, reset your receiver by turning off the switch. You might even try a factory reset on the receiver, because something is very wrong if it's moving any more than a degree or so from '0' to hit your true south satellite.

Thanks Tron. I new something had to be wrong with the motor moving that much. I reset the motor and restored the reciever to factory settings. I entered my info again an the motor moved maybe a half of a degree this time. I had to adjust the dish a couple of degrees higher than what the motor called for and bam there it was. 80 plus quality on the sat I was looking for. Thanks for all the help guys.
