All Eyes on Cablevision, VOOM (SkyREPORT) 03.07.05

(SkyREPORT) All eyes will be watching Bethpage, N.Y., today as Cablevision Chairman Charles Dolan makes his case for taking over VOOM, the company's struggling satellite TV service.

VOOM was preparing to shut down operations at the end of the month, but moves by the Cablevision chairman forced the company to abandon those plans, at least temporarily. Last week, Dolan placed new members on the Cablevision board, and some on Wall Street said those new members may be more receptive to Dolan's plans for VOOM.

Dolan has established VOOM HD to take over the assets that are not being acquired by EchoStar, and that satellite TV company is buying a satellite and an uplink from Cablevision for $200 million. There was talk last week that Dolan may talk to EchoStar about a new deal that would give him access to the satellite.
