Correct me if I'm wrong.

Dish has 24 HD nationals (includes the 5 HD-PPV). They lost 4 TPs (28 HD channels). Dish has said they'll have 100 HD channels by the end of the year. If that's 100 HD national channels, and not HD-LIL then Dish still has room to add 48 HD channels. I could live with that.

Of course, I guess it depends on if their next sat gets launched on time and what it is for.

And that it successfully launches.

As far as Echostar/Dish counting is concerned you are wrong. They "count" about 76 National channels. I count about 40 (including one big10) and no PPV or RSN. I also have 4 HD LIL and 1 HD RSN. I completely ignore the HD PPV's.

Since I depend on 61.5, but I already have my HD locals, I am somewhat but not unduly concerned. I expect they will be most impacted in what additional HD locals they will be able to do in the east. But they should still be able to complete some by going to spot beams. But they now have to decide what to use the freed transponders for. I am sure AMC-14 was expected to give them lots of freedom for that, so if it cannot get to its orbital position they have lots less choice. Plus even if it gets there they will need to start planning for its early demise.

There isn't really a 'bird' for Skyangel, there's some transponders that will be freed up that could potentially help with National HD.

Oddly, despite those transponders being freed there are some folks who would like to see the current programming on 2 of those 8 to remain as is. As those channels disappear more and more of those subscribers will be going to other options such as D* & FTA, with a few going to IPTV.

So darned if you do, and darned if you don't. :)

So CNN picked it up. Well, here's to that guy that made the comment this would not hurt Dish in anyway since only us board junkies would know about it :haha

LOL, I am sure Scott wouldn't mind. I appreciate all your help you gave me with Direct's DVRs. Wish I was back in Texas. I am from San Antonio.

On the latest pod cast Scott was upset about D* folks making comments about AMC-14 problems so got to be careful to not pi**off the owner;)

I'm originally from the Chicago area, wish I'm back up there when it's 100 down here in the summer.

DirectTV channels at Dish orbital locations

How is it that DirectTV is broadcasting something like 11 HD channels at 110 and over 50 SD channels from 119? Doesn't that bandwidth belong to Dish? (I am looking at The List.)

I have to chuckle at all the "should I cancel?" and "I'm glad my contract is running out" posts when we really know nothing about the true impact and what Dish's contigency plans are yet. I just turned on my 722 and yup, I still get the channels I signed up for a few months ago.

I could be completely wrong, but I thought his launch was more about replacing the current sat at 61.5 and providing more HDLIL. In that case, it would really only delay the HDLIL rollout, right?

That was my understanding of AMC-14. It was to replace an old bird and help facilitate the move to Mpeg4.

As for the new channels? They will go live in April. It has been posted before, much of the delay in expanded HD content had to do with contract issues. Many of the new "HD exclusive" channels that D* carried were because D* owned the servers. Do not take my word for it. Check the message boards for SciFi and Speed. Ownership was set to transfer in March 08. After that date, the networks were free to license their content to other carries.

According to documents filed with the FCC, E* began to move a new fully functional satellite on March 15th, set to arrive in its final orbit by April 15, 2008. The expanded lineup - National and Local - is being moved in to position right now. Let's just hope it arrives before April 15th.

No, though mergers/buyouts the 32 DBS Ku licenses at each slot are divided with D* have 3 transponders at 110 and 8 at 119 and E* having the others.

Nah there were some comments made by some "fan boys" of if you stick around and wait for Charlie to fix this issue then you are allowing Charlie to bend you over and screw you...

Those comments are now gone and are really uncalled for. (And those were the comments I was talking about on the Podcast.
