Well guys I hate to have to post this, but alas I have no control over it.
Amiko has discontinued the Mini HD RE.
I have been discussing this with them and they have decided it was time to move on to faster chip-sets and H.265 capable units.
I can understand this. The RE had the same class of Ali chip-set that were in many receivers over the last 10 years. Like the Openbox s9,s10, The first Manhattan, etc. Ali now has faster chip-sets that are double or more the speed etc.

This same thing happened when boxes started coming out that could decode DVB-S2. Although there were many great boxes still out that were DVB-S only, they could not decode S2. So everybody had to have S2 capable boxes.

Currently I am testing a replacement box that will still be around the $100 mark. I will update everyone in a week to 2 weeks on how that is going.

I will also say this. As always I will continue to offer support for anyone that bought a RE just like I did when the SE was dropped. Remember this was supposed to happen with the SE. When the SE was dropped that was it for that class of STB's. After many emails and phone calls they brought the SE back in two versions the SE(SCART Edition) and RE(RCA Edition).

They told me that that will not likely happen again and they will move forward.

So there you have it my sad news of the day.
Actually, I have known this for about a week, but I wanted to discuss with them more before I made it public.

I was just about to order the Amiko Mini Hd re. Should I proceed to order it or wait for the replacement box?

You will have to wait. I will have some units in next week, but I have to thoroughly test them before I put up for sale.

EDIT: I have a couple more units, but trying to decide if I want to keep for support reasons. Will let you know next week.

If they can deliver a new unit that is as stable as the miniHDre, with h.265 and maybe other improvements, then it's all good! Do you have any specs on the new unit?

I don't have all the spec sheets yet, so I will release when I have everything. It is double the CPU speed and does H.265 and H.264.

Just because it is not being made anymore does not render it obsolete. :)
Still a great receiver and will serve you well for a long time.

Also, as mentioned above I will still support it for the foreseeable future. :)

When’s the new receiver coming on your eBay store? Sorry for my impatience. I can’t wait for it to be available!

If all goes well it will be before the end of the month.

Sounds like it will likely be good news.
If it passes muster with KE4EST, I think it might make a good addition here.

So far I am pretty happy with it. Just running it a little more as my main unit. Don't wanna jump the gun. I wanna make sure I don't run into something strange. I know none are perfect, but just wanna keep running it a little more. :)
I have another unit sent to another member here and want to collaborate with them also when they get done testing.

Mike would you do a test for me? On SES1 at 101W how well does H&I behave. Does an SD show display in 4:3 mode? Is the video stable? I have more trouble with H&I, Decades, and Movies! on this satellite.

Thanks,
Al Rovner, K7AR
