Being a part of the DISH senior program you get a free movie certificate per month. Anybody else who gets an error when you cash in your certificate?

This is the second time I've cashed in a certificate and received an error message on the website and the movie is not authorized on my Hopper 3. Yet, when the bill comes in, it shows I used the certificate.

In the past, I've not called the specified number in the error message and just figured that, well, it was free so I'm not concerned. However, now that we're quarantined we'd like to see the movie DISH thinks they authorized us for. So now it's another 38 minute (estimated) hold time to try and resolve the issue.

Recently we had to move my father to an assisted living facility moving from one state to another. I had to work on cancelling his FIOS service in NY and set up new Xfinity service in PA while going through the hoops of rescinding early termination fees with Verizon. While somewhat time consuming, all the processes with the cable companies were much more efficient than simple things I need to deal with DISH.

I have managed to get my 2 free movies every month. I log into my.dish.com go to the Order Pay per View and Movies, select a movie, and under payment method use certificate. The rented movie then shows up as rented on both of my Hopper3 receivers.
I am doing this all on my IPhone 8+ using Safari. One thing that I have noticed is that my IPhone makes me log in and now tries to create a stronger password. I have to say use my own password and type in the password manually. In the past I could put in my user name and use my thump print to fill in the password.

Thanks for the reply. I used to get 2 and they cut me back to 1 per month. And in the past, the behavior of ordering and getting authorized was exactly as you described.

However, recently, when I order the same as always, they remove the certificate and the box never gets authorized.

Finally spoke with a wonderful rep in Mexico City who was able to waive the fee for the cashed in certificate. However, the underlying issue doesn't seem to have been resolved so we'll see what happens next month.

How does one qualify for free movies each month if they are a senior? Is there a minimum package you need to have or would Flex qualify? Do I just hit up an online CSR?

The offer I have is that seniors get Dish Protect Gold which includes Webroot and EZShield and 2 certificates for free movies for the normal Dish Protect cost of $12.99 per month. This was announced at Team Summit.
For me the $12.99 cost of Dish Protect Gold is worth it since it provides identity protection, antivirus, 2 free movies, and protection for my 2 Hopper3 and Joey 3 receivers along with protection for my DPH42 switch and Dish LNB’s.

If I recall, you just call up and say you want to be a part of the senior program.
:)

So I need to buy some sort of security package to be part of the seniors program ? I'll pass... I thought this was equivalent to a senior discount (free ppv), not a mechanism to sell me a new product.

I tried to get the seniors package when it was first announced but was told it was not for existing customers.

I just used the chat that was provided by the Dish Support person above and I was just notified they can't help me, that I have to call and talk with an account specialist at the number 866-218-2297. I'm very confused. I waited a long time on chat to talk with someone and then they can't help me.

THANKS DISH SUPPORT for wasting my time. I also waited on hold for over 30 minutes when i CLICKED on the Dish Support Direct Chat and was told chat could not do it and call 866-218-2297!

I couldn't get it through chat but called and got it. I've had it for around 6 months and am happy with it, at least once I figured out how to use the certificate properly. They certainly could make it easier.
Now if they would get some decent movies.

So did you have to buy a product? Keep a minimum package? Sign a contract? Or did they just say thanks for being a 55+ customer, here's a free movie per month... ?

had charges for two PPV movies on my most current bill, I’d ordered both from the website and used PPV certificates to pay for both. Neither PPV certificate was applied and I was charged for both.

After 22 minutes on hold, the CS that took my call informed me that in order to redeem a PPV cert for a movie you needed to call to order the movie.

She was able to find the expired “unredeemed” certs, and did credit my bill, but the thought of a call for each rental is daunting.

Anyone else ever heard this?
