The DVD Recorder I have (its a philips, but the model escapes me) has component in, but it is limited to 480p for recording.

Not implying HD Just want to record 480i with better resolution than s-video

I have the philips model ( think DVDR3400) also, probably same as Rocky, if you are interested in it, PM me as I no longer use it and only used it for about 12 total recordings.

It also sports and HDMI output among the possible options.

I also have a Phillips. Got it about 4 years ago. It has had some issues on and off (lots of reboots -- have to unplug it and go through setup again), but it works for what we do with it. I have recorded some movies off the air successfully, but mostly used it copy my videos.

I specifically got one with component inputs, but in the end, that was kind of a waste. The inputs only give me 480i, but the component output from my sat receivers has always been minimum 480p. I finally have a receiver that outputs 480i over component, so future recordings can be over component. I can say that I see a definite difference between the component input and S-Video.

In theory you can use this in place of a VCR for day-to-day recordings (time shifting), but I never used it for that. Once I got a DVR, I cannot imagine using a DVD player for that purpose.

Good luck. Let me know if you have other questions.
