Important Service Updates

DIRECTV Equipment Lease Program: In an effort to bring more value to the customer, DIRECTV is switching to an equipment lease program. Effective 3/1/06, new DIRECTV customers will no longer own their equipment. Under this new program, customers will enjoy a swap-out option that will allow them to upgrade their equipment at a fraction of the receiver's cost. This change will allow customers greater access to state of the art equipment and services.
TOTAL CHOICE Price Increase: On March 1, 2006, DIRECTV will implement a nominal price increase for select programming packages. The average increase will be approximately $3 per customer. These price adjustments are needed as a result of higher programming costs passed on by content providers. Programming fees have significantly outpaced these price increases of a customer's bill, which will be slightly greater than 4%.

DIRECTV continues to be a far better value than cable whose average annual price increases have typically been higher. DIRECTV continues to invest in the quality of the DIRECTV viewing experience, such as launching new satellites to bring local stations to over 93% of the country, more high definition and even greater number of channels and original programming to enjoy. So look forward to exciting new technologies, such as more interactive services, portable media players and programming delivered to customers via the internet. Plus 2006 investments will bring DIRECTV customers content such as CD USA, Network LIVE, Massive Gaming League and key alliances with XM Satellite Radio. The primary rate changes that will affect new customers are:

TOTAL CHOICE® PREMIER $99.99/month
TOTAL CHOICE PREMIER (without locals) $96.99/month
TOTAL CHOICE PLUS $49.99/month
TOTAL CHOICE PLUS (without locals) $46.99/month
TOTAL CHOICE $44.99/month
TOTAL CHOICE package (without locals) $41.99/month

Existing customers who subscribe to the TOTAL CHOICE PLUS package will only incur a $3.00 per month increase. Please note that the pricing for new customers for DIRECTV PARA TODOS® packages, as well as DIRECTV World Direct packages, is not increasing at this time. Pricing for certain other services, such as DIRECTV® DVR service and pay per view movies, is also not affected.
DIRECTV® HD package $9.99/month ($1 decrease): There will be a one dollar decrease to the DIRECTV HD package for both new and existing customers.
TNT HD NOW AVAILABLE: DIRECTV customers can now enjoy 75 high definition channels with the addition of TNT's HD feed. For only $10.99 per month, customers will receive the DIRECTV HD package, yielding an unsurpassed video and audio experience.
Local Programming Now Optional: Customers subscribing to any DIRECTV package can now choose to include local programming at an additional cost. Local programming will cost only $3 extra per month. This option will allow customers who wish to save money the opportunity to subscribe to their favorite programming package at a lower cost with locals excluded. Effective 3/1/06.

It appears for new customers that the price for all 5 Premium services has gone up $2/mo from $48/mo to $50/mo.

D* is copying E* once again in making the locals optional again even in areas that has their locals via satellite.

Those HD channels are comming just not yet.

BTW, locals have always been optional. You just have to ask.

Little confused by what D* is doing, while I think its great that you have an option. How else can you get locals? will a OTA hooked up do it?????

If you are close enough to the transmitters, of your local HD stations, you can get them OTA. For many of us that is how we get them now. I see no need to pay that extra $3.00 a month for 4 additional HD stations, when I already get 29 digital and HD channels, with an OTA antenna. But many people have bad reception or live in apartments and will need the locals added to their packages. I like that option.
