Apple IPAD Owner's Thread

A few more comments from me. Wish it were just 1/2 pound lighter. iBooks pretty good. I can see reading a book on it where I never could on my notebook. Ok, worked on my email with it. Wow, it is easy and intuitive. Facebook doesn't need an app anymore - full screen website version much better than the iphone app has ever been. Sync'd my entires audio and video library to it (took around 1 1/2 hours - seems to be slower than iphone syncing (I am not using music convert to 128AAC either). Tried doing a document in Pages. I was surprised at my ability to touch type on the screen. Very few mistakes.

Some of the cons:

A little heavy - I worry my 7 year old will drop it as it doesn't have a Wii like wrist strap!

Doesn't charge from my Dell Laptop USB port (low power port) - it will if the iPad is sleeping but not when it is on (a "feature" according to Apple) :)

Lots of fingerprints all over it, but interesting enough they only seem to show with the screen off. When you turn it on they don't seem to show up.

Syncing slower than iPhone 3GS (or seems to be so far)

iPad app store - no easy way to see all "free" apps (that I can find so far), there are two side by side columns of paid and free and you have to keep hitting "show me more". One errant click and you have to start back at the top of the list.

Have had about 3 "reboots" requires (version 1 software issues), where some apps would start, disappear and wouldn't restart until I rebooted. Sure those will be fixed now that developers will have their hands on the actual devices and when 3.2.x iPad OS releases from Apple.

Leo had a different perspective, which makes sense. He said, instead of viewing this as a computer replacement, view it as a TV replacement that can do more than most TV's

Exactly. I was not impressed with the iPad when I played with it yesterday, however I could be pulled back in depending how the new Sling app looks for the iPad. I know the new Sling app will work with the Pro hd when it is released. Does anyone know if it will work with the Solo as well?

I have the original sling box. The app player actually works better than my tp2 sling mobile.
But, the sling PQ is a bit fuzzy. I may need to upgrade to a newer sling box HD this summer.

Another correction: I spent the afternoon with a real MAChead and he helped me with one issue I had and posted about it in error. The keyboard has no navigation arrows. Well, the apple way is to touch and hold in the word you want to change and a magnifying glass appears, then slide left and right to precisely position the cursor. Now, make changes. With this, no need for navigation keys.

KenS. You expressed concern that the iTunes store exclusive will hamper creativity. Maybe, but consider that having it done this way makes the art of creation of innovative apps, rewarding for the author. Consider what has been sequestered. Apps that don't work and porn. Anything else?
Meanwhile, the only thing I discovered that doesn.t work to my liking is something I will rarely do anyway. but if there is something, you can bet I'll be first ti bitch about it! :)

Any news on jailbreak to multi- task?
The ONLY reason I jailbreak my iPhone so I can play apps such as Pandora and ooTunes in the background.
Would be nice if it were in the next software release.

To the one who asked about hulu.com

Hulu.com won't play the flash files on iPad. Gets message that Safari won't download Flash

I am still holding off getting one until they resolve the flash issue. Adobe keeps putting the word out that they will have flash on both the iPhone and the iPad. Perhaps they have to have a version that will not crash under all Apples tests.

Would Apple ever approve it....Is the question.

I purchased the 16g ipad at best buy yesterday. Sync seem to be a lot faster when syncing apps, than ipod touch and iphone. Comic apps, netflix and plants vs zombies works beautifully, aswell as the other apps I own for my ipod and iphone. I took it over to some friends and they love it. I think this is a good product. Money well spent. I recommend it.

I start not to get it, because I thought it was just a over size ipod touch. But, now that I have it. I don't think I ever use my ipod touch again. I have the iphone for travels and the ipad for home.

Also, I always wanted to try a mac. So I brought the mac mini with ipad. My main goal was to get a mac mini.

I read that the VGA adapter only works with Keynote. You may need to use the component adapter instead. Let us know if it works.

Finally, had a chance to check out the VGA cable adapter. With this adapter you have to pull the sound from the ear phone Jack, or just listen to it with the ipad speakers.

It works very well for ANY media display and the scaling is excellent if the source is up to your big screen resolution. I did a movie, slide show and YouTube videos. it does not display the iPad screen, nor standard web pages but just any embedded video on the web page. I did not try a ppt presentation.

Aple has two other choices of cables you can see on their iPad accessories web site. One of those has a charging cable and audio analog cables too.

Speaking of accessories, I see the USB Jack adapter is delayed until the end of the month, likewise for the sd card adapter.

Need help.

I found out I can play music while doing web surfing. Kind of like multitasking.

But, I need to edit the music that got synced when I first got the iPad. Is there a way to delete a music selection from the iPod list?

If your talking iTunes, then I think you have to delete on your pc first then sync it with the iPad. That will delete the song.

No way to delete from the ipad without syncing to the PC?

If the iPad is like the iPhone. No. At least I have not found a way.
Downloaded podcast and radio programs you can just swipe to delete on the iPhone. Music is different.

Yesterday I notice, even though having the iPad connected to my computer and the iPad shows not charging. The iPad is being charge. I was down to 70% charge and I connect the iPad to my pc to sync my pc bookmarks to the iPad. I forgot about it for a few hours and when I came back. I disconnected it from the pc and the iPad had 100% charge. Maybe not as fast as the power adaptor, but it does work.
