Article on ESPN/Dish Upcoming Negotiations

The savings wouldn't be substantial, but you could save money and get all the channels you want. Dish could set up a basement rate. $30 straight up and build up from there.

What I'd like is to pay between a 120+ and 200, and get all of the channels I wanted. It would mean the excluding a number of channels, but I could prioritize as needed. The basement fee would slush money around to help pay for the channels in aggregate.

Best thing that could happen for Scott would be blackout for a few days.

Satguys clicks (money in) would rocket upward.

Yeah, Scott is rooting for it to be dropped. ;-)

I know that's what everyone wants to do but if everyone had the choice of the exact channels they wanted there would be a lot of channels that couldn't afford to be operated anymore unless they raised their rates really high.

A channel like the Documentary Channel probably does not get near as many viewers as TBS. TBS could afford it because the majority of people would keep that channel but I'll bet that most people would drop the Doc Channel in order to save some money.

Now, what if you're one of those fans of the Doc Channel? You either end up losing your channel or you have to pay a premium for it. That person feels they are getting screwed now. I really think you need to think about it from every customer's point of view since everyone has their favorite channels.

Just looking at my current bill:

Im paying $125.49 (programming only, not hardware) to use approximately 43 channels. This counts what I record and that we watch when bored. Im paying for the Top 250 because 2 channels I want requires it.

This is where I dont think its fair for anyone to complain that they are paying for something they dont want... My total bill currently equals $152.99.

My bill is similar to yours and right now I mostly just watch TBS, ESPN and NFL Network. I probably only need 25 channels but I love to have the option to watch anything I want and that's why I get the AT250.

I was being generous and counted ALL the HD premium versions of HBO, Showtime, etc..., when realistically I only use the main channel from each to record original series.

But I agree, its nice to have the option to watch whatever you want.

If ABC had not of moved Monday night NFL football to ESPN, I would not watch ESPN at all. If ESPN was ala cart, I would not pay extra to get a few football games, even if my favorite team was playing. It is not worth $5 per month, let alone $8 per month. v

And its obvious to me what the reason was for moving it off ABC to ESPN.

But didn't the Doc Channel just switch over to news/talk and reruns of shows? That's what happens in the current model to a niche channel. Eventually they get normalized to look like everything else. And if you're a fan of documentaries, you lost your channel anyway.

Dish is in this to make as much money as possible, there will be no price drops.

Eventually they may need to drop the least popular channels and let them figure out what to do. Maybe those channels can make a life online. Dish needs to get back to a package of the Top 60 channels.

Yeah we really need Google Fiber to go nation wide that would really put a hurt on all the TV Providers along with their net services as well. I would be all over it if we got it here you just can't beat what they have to offer and would push all the Providers to do a better job.

ESPNU in HD before CFB season kicks in or I'll RIOT!!

Please just get Directv, so we don't have to hear about it anymore, once VT hits their losing streak again, you won't want to watch anyway.

I'm sure Dish will get it, just whether or not football is over with or not when it gets turned on.

thats an old way of thinking about things..Netflix,Amazon,Hulu etc... sell shows..MLBtv is alacart (on the internet)..HBO to go will eventually be alacart..consumers soon won't be buying channels..the will buy the "bandwidth" and just purchase the shows that interest them

Nope it was cause NBC got the Sunday night game from ESPN thus forcing Disney to move Monday night game from ABC to ESPN.

That's not correct.Espn merged with ABC sports, taking over MNF,NBC was granted a Sunday night game after that. There was no Sunday night game prior to that.

Plus dish would probably offer credits and/or free premiums to "angry" customers
