A's look good tonight for DirecTV
The 11th-hour deal promised by all sides appears to be happening, and DirecTV will carry A's games on Comcast SportsNet California after all.
DirecTV spokesman Robert Mercer said the "vast majority" of Bay Area subscribers would be able to see the season opener tonight against the Angels as negotiations wrap up to get CSN California carried on the same access tier as CSN Bay Area. (Check Channel 698 to make sure; that has always been a condition of agreement from CSN's side, but Mercer said only that "we're negotiating" Sunday night.
DirecTV is usually the domino that leads other providers into agreements, so the A's should have no distribution problems.
CSN California is Channel 89 on Comcast Cable and Channel 721 in high-definition. It is Channel 409 on Dish Network.
Because it's an annual game to try to find the A's on radio, a reminder: They have moved again, this time to KTRB-AM (860), a 50,000-watt station out of San Francisco.
It's opening day throughout the land — except in New York, where opening days are next week for the Yankees' and Mets' new stadiums. Therefore, baseball doesn't begin until next week and games don't count, just ask ESPN.Last week, good seats still were available at Yankees games — to anyone who wants to pay $2,625 for a seat in the Legends Suite.
