AT&T Sticks With Dish Network: Financial News - Yahoo! Finance

ENGLEWOOD, Colo. (AP) -- AT&T Inc. will sell Dish Network Corp.'s satellite television service in nine southeastern states.

The San Antonio, Texas-based telecommunications company said Wednesday the service will be offered through AT&T Advanced TV, expanding content and high-definition channel options.

AT&T previously resold both Dish Network and DirecTV satellite TV services but now has an exclusive partnership with Dish Network. AT&T also delivers television programming over phone lines through its U-verse service, which it expects will have more than 1 million customers by the end of 2008.

With nearly 14 million customers, Englewood-based Dish Network is the nation's second-largest satellite TV provider behind DirecTV.

This is sort-of old news. This is for resale of Dish Network programming into the old BellSouth territory. DirecTV lost that a while back. You might also want to look at the Reuters article:

NEW YORK, April 2 (Reuters) - Top U.S. phone company AT&T Inc (T.N: Quote, Profile, Research) said on Wednesday it is rolling out a joint video, Internet and phone service with satellite provider DISH Network Corp (DISH.O: Quote, Profile, Research) in states previously covered by BellSouth Corp.

AT&T, which acquired BellSouth in late 2006, has stopped marketing DIRECTV Group Inc (DTV.O: Quote, Profile, Research) service in the nine states, a spokesman told Reuters.

AT&T has not yet made a final decision on video partnerships for its entire territory, and was still in negotiations with DIRECTV and DISH, the spokesman said, adding a decision was due by the end of the year.

Good to hear--not. Would not recommend AT&T Dish to anyone. "Soon" to be Comcastman.

There was a link from Slashdot over the weekend to a thread on AVSForum about how Comcast is starting to signficantly compress their HD content. Some of the screen shots that were posted in the thread looked pretty bad.

Caveat emptor....
