My PS3 has a audio problem with hdmi. I lose my center channel speaker when I play Gran Turismo 5. No other games or movies make it act up so far and the game works with no problem. Which one would be better HDMI or fiber optic for sound?

HDMI is typically better for a number of reasons (especially bandwidth).

That you're losing center channel probably isn't indicative of a connection problem as digital audio is more of an all-or-nothing thing. Having drop-outs or hissing might indicate a connection issue but losing one channel suggests knocking off just one of six channels and that's more likely a surround decoder issue or something downstream of the cable.

I switched to fiber for my sound to see if it helps. GT5 has DTS sound It sounds great when you are going down the track it will drop off while your driving. Blu ray does look great on a ps3.

The fiber optic works. It does better than the HDMI I also had sound problems on ACE combat game center speaker again when I had the HDMI cable plugged up.

Thanks for the update.

You must have a pretty awful HDMI cable (or you've got a port going south).

I heard that the ps3 has audio problem through the hdmi you don't have the problem with fiber optic.
I can't recall having such problem with my PS3. Maybe my AVR is more forgiving than some.

I did see one thread about muffled or missing center channel sound but there wasn't a resolution.

Fortunately, it appears that you've found a work-around so as long as the audio is in sync, you're probably good to go.
