Awesome FTA dish

Man I wish I was closer to Portland. Maybe somebody will see this and can get this baby. A 16.5 foot spun aluminum one piece dish.
I used to have a nine foot spun aluminum but a hurricane blew it across the yard and damaged it before I could get it mounted in my new location.

I know a little truck stop casino that has three of these out front. Beautiful dishes!

The things that really hurts is that some scrap dealer is probally gonna buy that dish for the aluminum and scrap it

No, you got it all backwards.
You and CharredPC should get dishes like these.
Then, you mount them on a 10' pole out in an empty field.
Drape canvas "walls" from the rim right down to the ground.
Makes for some low-cost housing.
Sort of like tent-city.

What's a 7/8 FEC problem?

All digital channels have a FEC (Forward Error Correction) which keeps the signal stable. The lower the FEC, the more give it has.

Most KU is 3/4 FEC but some channels have 7/8 FEC and you need more signal to keep it stable. 3/4 is lower than 7/8 and allows a lower signal quality to be stable

Example.....on AMC1 C-band the Ion mux (group of channels) and TLN mux are both 3/4 FEC....I get them stable at a 33-35 quality on the Pansat.
However, DWTV is at 7/8 FEC so even though the signal is at a 50, it still pixelates heavily....need a 70 quality for it to be stable

Since I have a 6 foot dish, the simplest way to solve that issue is a bigger dish

My first day back and you're already tempting me! No, really, I have no place to mount a BUD (unless I want the roof to cave in on our new house)- not even on a wobbly 10' pole under camouflage canvas... so no tempting!!!

I mentioned it was sad a scrap dealer would end up with it. Perhaps you should threaten the scrap dealer, not the messenger.

Absolutely.
I think we should all contact our local scrap dealers and threaten them.
With money.
Next time they run across a nice dish, they calculate what it'll bring in scrap metal , then offer it to us for a little more !
They can call it a 'delivery charge', I suppose.

I'm not a tree-hugging recycler.
But let's get serious about those dishes out there!
They make a perfect lizard habitat, as shown by TurboSat, so let's keep 'em in service for many years!
. . . uh, oh yea, and they're great for receiving satellite signals, too!

Yep, I'll leave my dishes up even if the time comes when they don't work for tv any more, the lizard playground, haha. They even like dishnetwork dishes, hmmm. On warm days they can crawl into that lnb-arm since its open at the bottom, and escape the sun when it gets too hot.

I had a guy who offered to sell me his 8.5ft dish (minus lnb mounting arms and all of the hardware to put it back together) rather than recycle it. What a great price he offered - only $500!! Uh, no thanks, go ahead and recycle that sucker (unless its made of gold, I'm betting there's no $500 bills coming in that recycling payment!)
