If you're like me and your AZBox always goes into sleep mode and never wakes up whenever you want record on the fly or record a scheduled event this may be of help to you. I unplugged my 500GB, USB FreeAgent Desk from my AZBox and formatted it using Win XP. (To access Disk Manager in Win XP, you Right click on "My Computer" > Manage > Storage > Disk Management.)
After I formatted the USB drive, I then installed the latest Software that I downloaded from the Seagate website on my PC. I then launched the FreeAgent Desk tool, and in "Settings" I disabled "power saving." After disabling the power saving mode, unplug the HD from your PC and plug it into AZBox then format with using AzBox. Here is a tutorial on how to configure a FreeAgent USB HD.
Thanks to ScoobyFlat for the idea in the Dish Network thread!:up
