Does someone have any knowledge of the difference between a Bell 5200, 5800 and 5900 receiver?

Or, even the relevant DISH Network receiver names for the same units?

Dish's tech portal is an amazing reference for their receivers:
DISH Network - Tech Portal

But I need a correlation listing for Bell receivers to the Dishnet counterpart.

Thanks

Bell 5200 = Dish 522
Bell 5800 = Dish 508
Bell 5900 = Dish 510

Kevin,

Thanks for this.

Now I'm confused. The descriptions of the 501, 508 and 510 on the Dish page are identical. They even download the same user manual. Is there any difference in these models? The one thing the Dish website doesn't seem to give is HDD size. Is that the difference?

What happened to the Bell 5200? The Dish 522 seems a vastly superior PVR to the 510... DishProPlus technology, dual tuner, two-TV output capability. And the Dish 522 is still a current model, according to their webpage, along with the 510. Is there a reason Bell (and Bell distributors like KuSat) only have the 5900 (listed as refurbs, anyway), and not the 5200?

Thanks.

The 5900 works just fine with DP/DPP equipment. The 5900 is a single tuner and the 5200 is dual tuner as you know. I believe the 5900 has a 120GB Hard Drive which is plenty for SD recordings. I think the 5800 is an older version of the 5900 but I'm not sure about that. If you are planning to have HD in the near future get the 9242, even with the few flaws it has it is an awesome machine. It will be future proof for a long time as well.

Bell stopped selling the 5220 a long time ago.

All they sell now is the 6141 (211K), 9242 (black 622) and 4100 (111)

As has been pointed out the 5200 did not last long with Bell, I think the $599 price tag was the main reason. It was cheaper to buy 2 x 5900's....

The 5100 (501) was the first SD PVR offered by Bell, then they installed a larger Hard Drive and called it the 5800 (508), then guess waht, they added an even bigger Hard Drive and called it the 5900 (510).

Just to go a step further than Peano, the full line up of Bell TV's receivers available right now from Bell themselves and Big Box Stores etc are;

3100 (301)
4100 (111)
5900 (510)
6141 (211)
9242 (622)

Any of the other receivers can be got from E-Bay etc.

I run a 5200, have had it since the very first week in was launched, it is a real workhorse.

There's *lots* of 3100 on ebay right now (Well, not 240 of them - but a lot!)

Futureshop and Best Buy Canada did not list 5900's (or SD-PVRs) recently when I checked their websites. Just 4100, 6141 and 9242's. KuSat still lists 5900's, and Bell.ca lists a SD-PVR, altho they don't tell you the model #. Not sure what you get told if you go to a Bell World store.

To the folks above who recommend the 9242, I certainly take your point. It would certainly future-proof me the most, and hopefully reduce the amount of contact I need to take with Bell. However, its just the price. Right now, I'm hoping to pick up a 5900 or similar cheaply on ebay, and hope that will tide me over for a few more years. However, if the cost of a new receiver is going to push me toward $300, then I'll probably jump to the 9242.

Thanks
