A couple Coolsat's ( a 6100 and a 7000 PVR) have shown up in my local Craig's List for sale today. Prices aren't that good yet, but maybe in the future.
:)

As soon as the channels start dropping off, then we'll see some good deals on FTA gear :) I think that the HD/NFL/NHL/Nascar subscribers will get new cards first, followed by the Movie Channel subscribers so that those channels can be moved exclusively to the new cards first. That's when people with hacked FTA units will start to abandon ship because "there's nothing to watch".

Not really sadly they will just point at Dish, unless they Speak French, so look to Quebec when Bell does the swap.

they should do HD first then the HD boxes will go right away :) most boxes can only do Bell and not Dish

but when they nuke the porn, then they will start whining and dumping boxes.

Beep wrong, those subscribed to certain services will get new cards first. Those services will flip to the new security within 2 months after the first cards go out. From there they will go down the line.

Dish will also be doing a swapout as well. While it may be to the end of the year before Dish is done Dish has a few tricks up its sleeve that can keep the pirates busy until they finish the swap. And then there is the Eastern Arc. :)

Sure it may be til the end of the year before everything is done, but most of the big things will be switched over early.

I hope that both Dish and ExpressVu can pull it off.

Thats the point I was trying to get across. Just didn't get into details. What I said is not really wrong. They still have to multicast both streams until the card swap with all their subs are completed. Thus the end of year statement.

Give the coolsats about 2 more months. Ive already seen them dropping in price due to "poor support" hahahaha... anyways I digress..

I personally like all the FTA channels that are out there. I have a sub with dish and a sub with the local cable comp. Sure it's redundant. But there are some channels you cannot get on sat/fta PERIOD, and I have to rely on the local cable comp. to get those channels. For those wondering, We have 2 news channels dedicated strictly for our area called News 13. Can't get those FTA! Their only broad casted through the cable company.

I would like to be able to get all of the FTA birds up there, but the wife done put her foot down and said if I buy another piece of equipment she's booting me out!

They dont need to multicast anything. Certain services will flip over to the new security ASAP while other services will migrate over time (ie the croe base service)

I don't know anything about bev and how their packages are setup. I live way down here in the warm country. I do know that Directv did multicast all their streams until all the cards were swapped.

I think Iceberg had a good idea though. Do the HD swaps first, then switch that stream over completely. That will be fun to watch!

Yup and remember this card swap will not effect any of the legit subscribers anyways, so if your a subscriber there is no need to worry, ExpressVU will take care of you.

Only ones worrying are the hackers. :)

I had no problem with the last card swap, did one for myself and two for my Mom with no issues. It worked just as it was supposed to.

I only wish that they (the hackers) had sold more of the HD boxes with the tuner modules as I am wanting to get a cheap unit to tune to the new RTN DVB-S2 signals.

RTN DVB-S2.
Is it Ku or C?
If Ku where is it?
I just got DVBWorld supporting S2.

Thanks

Right now it's Cband only on Galaxy 26. Galaxy 3C Cband and Galaxy 10R ku are supposed to switch to dvb-S2 sometime in the future.

So all receivers are going to have a replacement card, even all of the cardless receivers?

Yes. Those "cardless" receivers actually still have a smartcard, but it is mounted directly to the circuit board instead of sitting inside the card slot. When a new smartcard is inserted in the card slot, the onboard smartcard is then disabled.

I did some digging around in the sewer last night...seems that the folks that write the hack software for Coolsat have flown the coop. Also read that Coolsat is in hot water...something about not protecting their trademark, didn't make sense to me but I am a dumb Cajun boy...;)

So those of us that like Coolsat equipment may get the deals first. I saw some Coolsat 8000HD's on fleabay last night SELLING for less than 250.00. :D

By the end of this year,I think we'll see them for the $100 to $150 range. That's when I'll get one, even though I don't have an HDTV, from what I've heard from Iceberg, they have AC3 decoding built in which would be pretty sweet for the AC3 encoded channels.

correct. They will decode the AC-3 channels with no extra equipment so you can record the PBS channels to a DVD recorder with just a pair of patch cables :)

Bell and Dish network can swap cards, but it will get hacked since Nagravision encryption is used by many companies. Last time they did that, it took only 4 months to crack Nagravision 2. They only way to stop hacking is to go in house like Directv did. That is why it has not been hacked. The new encryption for Bell and E* is called Nagravision 3 and has been used on some select services in Europe for few months. However it is not widespread, and all these services still run Nagra 2 so hackers have not really been working hard to hack new encrytion.
