Hdmi/dvi is the best connection as it is digital all the way. It comes from the satellite just as it was sent with no digital to analog conversion. Component is still analog and there is the digital to analog conversion in your receiver that will cause artifacts. Some people say they can't tell the difference between the two connections, but I can on my Toshiba 57"hd tv. Hdmi and dvi is definately better.

Ok as requested im looking into a HDTV thats about 27-32 inchs, not lcd or plasma (to expensive) I was thinking of a crt projection HDTV. I just needed to know what connections where the best before i bought one. I'm going to be getting one that has 1080p because I hear its the best and the PS3 supports it.

Remember, folks - "DVI" can be analog or digital. If you're not seeing a difference between component and DVI, it just might be because you're using DVI-A - which is the same as component!

The 811's DVI-D is digital only, the 921's DVI-I has D & A. You don't get the analog side of DVI-I unless you are using a special cable that utilizes those pins and connect to the display's RGB (I think, anyway it's not component) input.

New TV models seem to be dropping DVI in favor of HDMI. The 942, 211 and 411 have HDMI. I wish the industry had settled on a connection type before all this equipment got lugged into our living rooms.

Simon is right, DVI can be digital or analog. I have one DVI connection on my Samsung DLP and I use it for my Samsung DVD player. I would like to buy a switch box and that way I could use the same DVI in for my 942 and DVD player, but the switch box I'd like to get is $250. So, I use the 1080i component inputs for my 942 and I get a very good picture...almost as good as my DVD picture quality, so I'm not complaining.

I plan on replacing my DLP set in about 2 years and at that point, I'll make sure that it has both HDMI and DVI inputs.

I have a Panasonic 50 in. LCD RPTV and a 921. I've tried both DVI to HDMI and Component and I think component actually looks better on my TV the black level and color levels seem more vivid...go figure? BTW Shaggy the big box membership store on near the Galleria in Roseville (rhymes with Bosco) has some great prices on lcd rptv's, and the best return policy on the planet...'cept they don't deliver...what ever your choice get good quality cables, they do make a difference.

Shaggy, another suggestion...if and when you buy, use a credit card...most, if not all credit card companies double the manufactures warranty on electronics.

One thing though i wont be getting hdtv :( because after we upgrade to the 522 Ill be getting dish in my room. And there is no way I can do the 942 $250 fee.
So like I said I need it for the PS3. *cough* xbox sucks *cough* ok the first was cool not the 360 here are pics of my old xbox (sold it :( )

please use the attachment option...linking to another site for the pictures makes it a bitch for dial up users :)

When you reply, there is a button that says manage attachments....

Just my .02- The 942's HDMI output doesn't like my TV and has a tendancy to go blank after a while. Others have had the same problem with other brands of TVs. So I use the componant inputs. To be honest, I couldn't tell the difference in the picture between the two connections on the rare occasion that the HDMI works. And the guide/menus/ect actually looked WORSE through the HDMI.

But, I have a reletively low-end set (32" LCD), so the difference may be more noticable on a larger, higher end set.

Any way to get the 942 working with 1 line?

What Kind of switch or Configuration
