First of all :welcome to SatelliteGuys!

Second, that is a loaded question. There are probably 400 answers to that question. Do you want new or used? Tight budget or want to spend$ 4000 +?

I got started for well under $ 175, KU dish and all but have spent more than that trying to get my C-Band dish up, but the high winds here have taken it down, twice. The next install will go into bedrock, at least 6 feet down and have 800 lbs of concrete!

I like the Fortec Mercury II. I use the GeosatPRO DVR1100c now. I am waiting for the new microHD which will be out very soon, which I claim was designed for ME!

Yes :welcome to SatelliteGuys!!!

Give us your budget and experience level.

The openbox S9 is a good box that can be had for under 100$ and works with dvb-s2 signals and has an excellent blind scan. That box coupled with a dish mover( vbox or older analog/4dtv receiver) will allow you to get most of the open signals up there.

I'm confused really. I've heard of the Azbox and Manhattan. Skyvision says the Manhattan is the best but the Azbox I read is the top choice. What is the microHD?

caddyshack, spend a few hours reading the threads of this forum and you will get loads of information. The microHD is a box that has been developed by a Gold Sponsor and member of this forum, designed to meet the requests from members. He also designs and sells commercial rack mount receivers which possibly influences the quality of the hobby boxes. He is a hobbyist also.

As you read the forums, you will find opinions on a lot of EQ. As one example a $69 special 6 foot C band dish... Sold a to lot of people here, but now is proving that the quality was only worth what they paid for it. They are being junked already. Keep reading.

When is the Geosat coming out? Is it worth waiting for or should I go with one that has been on the market for a while? I can only afford to buy one FTA receiver and need to make it as trouble free as possible. Being on a fixed income it don't give you room to upgrade much.

The microHD with be out shortly.

Personally, I would never wait for a STB to come out. if you are at a point where you need or want a FTA receiver now, research what is available now and jump in.

Hint: Some better will always be available.... Tomorrow.
