FOX Sports on MSN - Jay Glazer - Millen out as Lions president, GM

Detroit fans, your wish appears to have finally come true.

FOXSports.com has learned that the Lions have finally removed team president and GM Matt Millen from his post, unseating one of the most criticized executives in Detroit sports history.

Millen was informed of the move last night during a late-night high-level meeting. This morning several people within the building confirmed that he had large packing boxes in his office and he made his way around to different employees telling them of the move.

It is unclear if Millen was fired or removed himself from the equation but the news comes just days after Bill Ford, Jr. publicly stated he would have fired the GM if it was his decision but he lacked the authority to do so.

Could this be the end to the "Millen error?" For the sake of all Lions fans on this board and across the country, I sincerely hope so. Luckily, it's from Jay Glazer, so there's a very good chance this report is correct.

From talking to several Detroit fans, team owner Bill Ford and family are just as much the problem. Meddling in team decisions and the inability to appoint right leadership has been the major issue for years.

Wow the unthinkable has happened, just yesterday I said that he would not leave anytime soon.....I guess anything can happen!!!!!

Its good news, but its not going to change anything this year.....Please have a national search for a GM. I am thinking Rod Marinelli (current coach) will be next if not now later, I would think the new GM would want his "guy"

As a Bears fan this is bad news. They may eventually turn into a good team now that Millen s out. I think Green Bay should hire him.

There is a GOD!

Bring in the next idiot. While I have no faith that Ford will hire anybody worthy,(he hasn't so far), there is an outside chance he could just get lucky. At any rate it's a step in the right direction. It's the next step that scares me. Excuse me while I break out the champagne.

he is a very wise man :D

They will still suck for a while.

It will take at least 2 seasons to undo the damage that moron Millen did.

Marinelli (current coach) I think is next to go

I'm sure the next GM will want his own guy. Fill up a Ford Expedition with cash, and drive to Bill Cowhers house now. Oh hell, fill up two Ford Expeditions, this guy will need a lot of persuasion.
