burning blu-ray

Bought a bluray writer thinking I could copy certain content on a more permanent way than the DVR which sometimes mysteriously vanishes. My problem is the writer (Rosewill USB 3.0 external) has no jacks for input, therefore can only burn from my computer. I can't figure a way to transfer from the DVR to the writer. I'm an old guy and not real savvy tech-wise. Any ideas out there?

Welcome to SatelliteGuys, you could get a capture device like the Hauppauge 1212 to capture programs to the pc, then burn...

Then get DVDFAB 9 that has a nice feature to convert and burn to Bluray.
