Does anyone know if the USB port on the back of a mini genie, can power a Google Chrome cast....

Just guessing here, it might power it, but I doubt it will work. Isn't it designed to work off of a television?

Correct it's HDMI - but requires a power source. Which can be a USB port on your TV, which mine doesn't have. Since I would mount the mini genie behind my TV I'd jack into the USB port on the genie. But wasn't sure if it's active. Now if the genies were as high tech as my TiVo Roamio I wouldn't need a chromecast as I just want to watch a YouTube clip with out needing to use the directv interface....

Thanks as usual to you both!

Yes any active USB port should pass the 5v needed to power the Chromecast device.

Here is a pic of the setup instructions from my Chromecast box. :)
