Flawless... 5 cable cards total now and no issues.

Ironically the installer was blown away that I've had no issues. His experience has been much different and apparently mine was his only install that went smoothly.

I guess the big trick in my opinion is to have good levels on your coax. Not too many splitters, or if necessary an active two way amp..

Good luck to you when you have your install.

Thanks. How did the cable card install go?

I bought an HD Tivo and I had Cablevision come out to install two cable cards. The install was a disaster. The cable guy argued with me about the viability and reliability of cable cards saying that I am going to have lots of problems and I'm better off sticking with their HD DVR box, etc.

He then did the install and lo and behold it didn't work. Not because cable cards are unreliable but because this idiot grabbed two bad cards on his way to my house (the cards were about 3 years old). He came back the next day and got it working but soon afterwards, one of the cards malfunctioned.

The Tivo customer service rep called Cablevision for me and we had a conference call that night and they were able to get it working.

I haven't had a problem since.

The iddiot is the warehouse. They supply the cards to the tech. Thier is no way for him or her to know if the cards are good or bad.
Cable Cards work great with tivo, the problem is with the tv manufact...

Yes.. But thier only good in the tivo hd boxes with the slots in the front. The ones with the slots in the back are giving problems. For TV sets they only work as a single stream.

I should add they just started offering m-cards and only in certain areas. long island and parts of new jersey can not get them due to it being a different encrpytion technique.
