I have a HDTV and a 8300 HD DVR from Cablevision. Is it worth trying a HDMI hook up? Will I see a significant improvement in quality? Is it a fairly easy to install hook up?

I always tell people if you are going to by an hdmi wire, just make sure if you not happy for whatever reason that you can get a full refund. Some people say they notice a difference, others say there is none. I believe it has a lot to do with the tv as well.

It all has to do with your TV and how it handles the HDCP protection and communication with the 8300. As you said some people fall back to componet and some like myself have stuck to HDMI. I have a Dell 3201C and the 8300 is in Auto mode, the wife likes Lifetime streteched and can not remember how to change the settings (no trouble hitting buttons on the phone, just the remote).

I only have the option of DVI or component on my TVs. My brother who has an DLP projector did not like the HDMI output so he ended up using component.
