As most of you know, we get very little DX of any kind here on the west coast. I haven't seen any distant stations here in San Francisco for a long time... until yesterday. Conditions were really good from about 5 am to 4 pm yesterday and the Sacramento - Stockton stations transmitting from Walnut Grove were all 8 to 10 dB stronger than normal. I also logged KCBA 35 (RF 13) from Salinas, CA, about 88 miles away, plus KNVN 24, transmitting from the hills east of Red Bluff, CA, 174 miles away! I haven't seen those signals in here in a long time.

Today everything was back to normal, but it was fun while it lasted.

Yes, lack of open channels is my major problem in seeing DX. Only channels 5 and 6 are open on low VHF, only 11 on high VHF, and just 22, 24 and 31 on UHF (plus 37, of course). Channels 15-18 are assigned to mobile radio and I get strong signals on those channels. I guess that's what I get for living in a major metropolitan area.
